This position is based in Bengaluru and will require some on-site work.
Purpose and Scope:
As a Automation Engineer - Solutions Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the automation and workflow management architecture and strategy for Astellas. Your expertise and proven experience will drive the design, development, and scalability of our automation/workflow management/AI solutions utilizing Machine Learning algorithms and APIs. You will play a pivotal role in building maintaining and enhancing our automation capabilities across the organisation. Essential Job Responsibilities:
Design and Architect Automation Frameworks/solutions: Develop and execute strategies for automation processes utilizing Workflow Management, AI and Machine Learning across the business.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives identifying opportunities to optimise performance security and maintainability of existing automation architecture and other technology investments.
Participate in smaller focused mission teams to deliver value driven solutions aligned to our global and bold move priority initiatives and beyond.
Maintain Automation Systems: Ensure the ongoing functionality and efficiency of automation systems.
Develop Project Plans: Create detailed plans for automation initiatives, including resource and budget estimations.
Create Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of automation processes and test procedures.
Provide Training: Offer guidance and training to team members on automation tools.
Collaborate with cross functional teams and practises across the organisation including Commercial, Manufacturing, Medical, DataX, GrowthX and support other X (transformation) Hubs and Practices as appropriate, to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Provide Level 3 and 4 Technical Support to development and testing solutions
Participate in the continuous delivery pipeline Adhering to DevOps best practises for version control automation and deployment. Ensuring effective management of the PlatformX backlog.
Stay-up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in Automation and AI
Collaborate with cross functional teams and practises across the organisation including Commercial, Manufacturing, Medical, InformationX, GrowthX and support other X (transformation) Hubs and Practices as appropriate, to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Provide Technical Support to internal users troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring system uptime as soon as possible.
Participate in the continuous delivery pipeline. Adhering to DevOps best practises for version control automation and deployment. Ensuring effective management of the PlatformX backlog.
Database Management: Develop strategies for automating database operations, including data migration, backup, and recovery.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Regularly monitor performance of applications and identify bottlenecks.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 6-8 years in software development and automation, with at least 3-5 years in an architect role.
Proficient in Search Processing Language (SPL) and query optimization
Proficiency in automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Jenkins), programming languages (e.g., Java, Python), and database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
Experienced in data onboarding (parsing, field extractions, source types)
Skilled in building interactive dashboards with tokens, drilldowns, and visualizations
Knowledge of indexing, retention policies, and bucket management
Familiar with Splunk REST API and Python SDK for automation
Able to integrate Splunk with external tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira)
Strong troubleshooting skills for data ingestion, parsing, and performance issues
Understands CIM (Common Information Model) and data normalization
Experience with query performance tuning (e.g., summary indexing, report acceleration)
Experience with distributed Splunk architecture (indexers, search heads, forwarders)
Worked on multiple Python-based projects and Workflow Management implementations
Deep understanding of various machine learning algorithms and their applications.
5-7 years of experience in software development and coding in other automation languages, Automation Solutions Architecting,
Model Deployment: Experience in deploying AI models into production environments.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
Monitor and report on the performance and effectiveness of the automated processes.
Experience within Life Sciences/ Pharma /Manufacturing industry is preferred.
Agile Practices: Experience working in agile development environments, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Analytical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to lead ad hoc analyses, identify performance gaps, and foster a culture of continuous improvement
Technical Proficiency: Strong coding skills in SQL, ML, Python, Microsoft Power Automate, Microsoft Power Apps, SharePoint, Dynamics 365, Workflow Automation, API Integration and data visualization.
Agile Champion: Adherence to DevOps principles, automation, and a proven track record with CI/CD pipelines for continuous delivery
Understand and Interpret business requirements and can term them into technical requirements.
Preferred
Certifications in any automation platforms – Automation Anywhere, Ignio, MyWizard
Proven experience in developing/ Architecting solutions Automation platform solutions.
Any relevant certification at professional level. For example
Workflow Specialist (Professional),
Microsoft Certified Power Automate Developer Associate.
Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals
Artificial Intelligence Engineer (AIE) Certification
IBM/Google Cloud/AWS Machine Learning Professional Certificate
Training in areas such as machine learning and/or artificial intelligence
Subject Matter Expertise: possess a strong understanding of data architecture/ engineering/operations/ reporting within Life Sciences/ Pharma (regulated) industry across Commercial, Manufacturing and Medical domains.
Experience with cloud-based automation and DevOps practices is a plus.
Analytical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to lead ad hoc analyses, identify performance gaps, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Working Environment
This permanent position will be hybrid 2-3 days / week and based in Bengaluru, India
