Astellas is announcing a Research Associate II, Process Science & Technology opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Westborough, MA.
The Research Associate will execute studies required to develop new cell expansion processes, justify manufacturing process or product changes. These are to improve product performance and yield or identify critical parameters of processes in differentiated stem cell culture processes.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Work closely with other Process Science and Technology (PST) team members, maintain accurate records and assist scientists with recording experimental data
Perform short- and long-term cell culture experiments
Maintain adherent mammalian cell cultures, including media preparation, thawing & seeding, feeding, passaging and cryopreservation of cells
Perform assays such as viability, cell growth and flow cytometry
Assist in planning and implementing the development of new processing materials, procedures and products
Assist in establishing process parameters and improving manufacturing efficiencies especially in the areas of differentiation, expansion and activation of Natural Killer cells
The work will focus on development of new clinical trial products and processes. Successful completion of tasks will lead to technology transfer into GMP manufacturing, improvements in production efficiencies and product safety.
This position reports to Senior Scientist in the PST group. The individual will work closely with other members of the PST staff and will interact with Drug Product Development, Analytical Development and Translational Development groups.
BS with 3+ years or MS with 0-2 years of laboratory experience.
Proficient in aseptic technique, mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA prep, qPCR, etc.).
Broad-based knowledge of cell biology.
Exceptional oral and written skills.
Experience with culture and differentiation of hematopoietic cells such as NK or T-cells.
Previous experience in process development of cell-based products.
Knowledge of or previous cGMP experience.
