Astellas is announcing a Research Associate II, Cell Biology .

Purpose:

This position plays a key role in developing human pluripotent stem cell (PSC)-derived ocular cells for clinical applications. The successful candidate will have a track record of success in a collaborative research environment with proficiency in standard cell culture and cell characterization techniques, and a proven ability to execute experiments and analyze data independently

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs cell cultures including expansion and maintenance of pluripotent stem cells and differentiation into ocular cell types as required by the team's needs.

  • Maintains a bank of differentiated and undifferentiated cells.

  • Characterizes cultured/differentiated cells by molecular & cell biology techniques, such as qPCR, ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry, and imaging by fluorescent/confocal microscopy.

  • Makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.

  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.

  • Maintains accurate and well-organized records (laboratory notebooks, electronic records, databases).

  • Ordering and monitoring of experiment supplies.

  • Maintains great communication and collaboration with internal stake holders.

  • manager, which may include reference to the Ethics and Compliance Team and/or Ethics and

  • Compliance Helpdesk.

  • Undertake and comply with relevant mandatory Ethics and Compliance training and updates to

  • maintain personal awareness; all training to be undertaken in a timely manner.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently perform laboratory experiments

  • Demonstrates clear conceptual understanding of project goals, experimental design, data analysis and troubleshooting

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrates effective collaboration with team members and other teams

Organizational Context:

  • Communicates with other members of multidisciplinary teams at the individual contributor level.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Education: BS with 3+ years/MS with 0+ years.

  • Hands-on experience in cell cultures and at least a few cell characterization techniques such as qPCR, ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry, and imaging by fluorescent/confocal microscopy.

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Prism.

  • Adept learner with a willingness to learn new techniques.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Education: BS with 3+ years/MS with 0+ years.
