Astellas is announcing a Research Associate 2, Cytogenomics opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Westborough, MA.


We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Associate to join our team and contribute to the development of stem cell based therapies spanning multiple therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will have a track record of success in a collaborative laboratory environment with proficiency in G-banded chromosome preparation and analysis, FISH preparation and analysis, mammalian cell culture, various standard molecular and cell biology techniques, and a proven ability to plan and execute experiments and analyze data independently

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Participates in collaborative experimental design.

  • Conducts laboratory assay development to characterize in process and end stage cell products using a variety of techniques including chromosome processing and analysis, FISH processing and analysis, droplet digital PCR, and microarray.

  • Method development, validation, and creation/troubleshooting of SOPs.

  • Follows best practice guidelines and all quality assurance guidelines set out for a GMP regulated laboratory.

  • Analyzes data, interprets and communicates results. Prepares data summaries and figures for presentation.

  • Manages, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment.

  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with other functional teams and external collaborators to meet project goals and turnaround times.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Ability to independently and efficiently perform laboratory experiments

  • Demonstrates proficiency in data analysis and troubleshooting

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrates effective collaboration with other teams

Organizational Context:

  • Reports to Associate Director, Cytogenomics

  • Communicates with other members of multidisciplinary teams



  • MS with 0-2 years or BS with 3+ years relevant laboratory experience

  • CG(ASCP) certification or equivalent

  • Proficiency in chromosome brightfield and FISH processing and analysis

  • Experience in assay validation

  • Proficiency in aseptic mammalian cell culture

  • Ability to effectively participate in cross functional collaboration and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent work planning, organization, and record keeping is essential


  • Experience in microarray processing and analysis

  • Molecular biology experience
