Astellas is announcing a Principal Research Associate/Scientist- Cell Therapy & Regenerative Medicine opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Westborough, MA.

Purpose:

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist I / Principal Research Associate, to join our regenerative medicine team and contribute to our Ocular Research team.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute assay development experiments for cell therapy products

  • Prepare virus vectors and perform cell transductions

  • Responsible for maintenance, characterization, and differentiation of pluripotent stem cell lines

  • Perform RNA and Protein expression analysis

  • Research literature, participate in team discussions, and contribute to experimental design

  • Make detailed observations, analyze data, interpret results, present data, and maintain records

  • Establish a strong collaboration and communication with a multidisciplinary cross-cultural team as well as external stakeholders

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Scientist I:

  • PhD (Stem cell biology/Developmental biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences or related field) with 0-3 years of post-PhD lab experience.

  • Principal Research Associate:

  • BS with 8+/MS with 4+ years of relevant experience

  • High level expertise in one of the following:

  • Stem cell research including cell culture, stem cell analysis, and differentiation

  • Tissue engineering and biomaterials

  • Experience in lentivirus or AAV generation and transfection

  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, experiment execution, and result analysis

  • Solid work experience in one the following techniques: immunocytochemistry/immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and flow cytometry

  • Proficient in molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA prep, qPCR, ELISA, and Luminex

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting

  • Highly motivated, well organized, detail-oriented, and an adept learner with the ability to identify and troubleshoot complex problems and suggest process improvements

  • Excellent oral and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in the ocular field highly desirable

  • Experience with bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomic data preferred

  • Experience in state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques such as single cell analysis and CRISPR a plus
