Astellas is announcing a Laboratory Support Technician I opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Westborough, MA.
The Laboratory Support Technician I, reports to the Associate Director, Facilities, and helps oversee the day-to-day operations of the AIRM Research laboratories. This individual performs a variety of duties including equipment management, lab cleanliness, refrigerator and freezer maintenance, ordering, records management, laboratory safety support, autoclaving, and general lab stock / inventory. The incumbent must be a highly motivated self-starter who is comfortable supporting laboratory operations, working in a hands-on environment, has an interest in taking on increasing responsibilities.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Assist with laboratory equipment lifecycle management including purchase, setup, preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance, calibration, certification, and equipment retirement
Assist with maintaining the equipment monitoring (alarm) system
Perform equipment decontamination and cleaning as needed
Assist research staff with specialized consumables purchases as needed
Maintain laboratory cleanliness as needed and through coordinated annual efforts
Manage the laboratory notebook processes encompassing assignment, collection, and post collection processes including retirement and archiving
Contribute to a culture of safety through collaboration with research staff and environmental health and safety
Assist with all aspects of vendor relationships
Some clerical tasks/data entry
This position is measured against two key areas 1) the number and types of vendor interactions and 2) the quantity and types of equipment maintenances performed. Both relate to the general upkeep and availability of the research equipment which directly impacts the research operations in Research and non-GMP Tech Ops
Reports to the Associate Director, Facilities at IRM and works closely with the Laboratory Operations Manager. This position works closely with the Research and non-GMP Tech Ops staff and has high visibility ranging from research technicians to the heads of those groups. This position will spend most of its time in the laboratories providing the operational support needed by the researchers. This will come in the form of basic projects, equipment maintenance, consumables provisioning, and a host of other efforts.
This position has an important role in fostering and maintaining a culture of safety and works with the research staff and EHS to assure compliance and improvements when deficiencies are identified.
High school diploma or equivalent
2+ years laboratory operations experience
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Outlook
Experience in a pharmaceutical research setting
Experience with basic microbiological techniques
