Astellas is announcing a Director Government Strategy opportunity in Washington, DC.
Purpose & Scope:
The Director Government Strategy will lead policy management and analysis and set policy strategy and priorities in the areas of oncology-related policy and reimbursement, pricing policy, and market access, including insights for strategic new product planning activities. The Director will provide expert insight and guidance to advise efforts of the Federal Government Affairs and State Government Affairs teams, and will represent Astellas as a thought leader with external policy stakeholders to help advance Astellas policy priorities in assigned areas. The Director will help create policy positions that sustain a positive business environment for Astellas, while positioning the company as a credible and respected leader in the health care industry. In this role, the Director will work in an integrated manner with key business functions within APUS to ensure the Company's therapeutic area policy efforts support business objectives across the organization.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Set direction for the company's strategy and priorities in key areas of oncology-related policy, reimbursement, market access and pricing policy, including insights for strategic new product planning activities.
Lead policy generation and regularly conduct policy analyses to understand impact on company P&L and the relative priority of a given issue.
Closely collaborate with Federal and State Government Affairs and Government Communications to ensure alignment of policy and advocacy activities, and create robust policy development positions
Lead Astellas cross-functional teams to solve problems and identify novel, practical solutions to policy needs and changes
Interface closely with internal business leads and create and offer strategic and tactical options for our business and functional leaders.
Co-lead development of, and contribute content to, internal department publications.
Typically responsible for managing 2-4 policy projects. Project management includes vendor selection, oversight, and work product appraisal.
Develop strategies to support key business functions within APUS (including the Commercial organization) to help advance business goals.
- Position reports to senior director who leads policy management & analysis in the policy and government affairs unit.
8 years of government strategy/policy experience, or in related fields
An advanced degree such as a Juris Doctor, Masters in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field
Expertise in creating and developing government policy positions in a corporate setting
Comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry from a corporate and broader environmental perspective
Strong experience in oncology, reimbursement, market access, and pricing policy, specifically a good understanding of Medicare.
Experience working collaboratively in a team and cross-functionally in an organization.
Actively seeks out and supports collaborative thinking and problem solving with others in the organization
Strong interpersonal, influencing, negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively address all levels.
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage multiple projects
Ability to travel 25%
Pharmaceutical/healthcare industry experience.
Experience with national and/or state/regional healthcare industry associations.
Government or political experience -- executive or legislative
