The Role

As part of the Astellas Gene Therapy (AGT) Center of Excellence Enterprise Engineering & Facilities (EE&F) team, the Senior Program Manager will establish enterprise wide programs, lead complex project engineering initiatives, provide technical and engineering support to various teams, gather and analyze data, identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing processes, work with PMO leadership to develop standards and best practices, implement solutions against problem areas, and conduct inspections to ensure that all projects adhere to the company's quality standards and safety regulations. The Senior Program Manager will also provide guidance and monitor the progress of projects executed by project engineers. This role supports EE&F Project Management Office and partners with EE&F functions with subject matter expertise in the design and collaboration of capital and facility projects with minimal disruption to operations. We are looking for someone that has enterprise experience building and leading programmatic facilities engineering and construction programs.

This position is based in Sanford, NC.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as a subject matter expert with multiple business units including Process Engineering, Project Engineering, Facilities and Engineering, Manufacturing, IT, Finance, Procurement, and Legal to manage compliance and timely delivery of projects

  • Collaborate on cost estimates/budgets, schedules, and performance standards with Project Leaders/Engineers and System Owners

  • Work closely with the site Facilities and Engineering department for the alteration of mechanical, electrical, and physical infrastructure and preventative maintenance programs at the Sanford, NC facility

  • Formulate and recommend strategies, objectives, budgets, plans, and procedures for enterprise-wide programs, trade partner interactions and contractor management for all AGT locations

  • Standardize site facilities specifications and procedures

  • Provide visibility to work and projects, priorities, and budgeted and unbudgeted expenses related to capital projects

  • Manage and coordinate the efforts of various outside design, layout, construction, and service disciplines in the design, costing, and alteration of facilities

  • Communicate results to system owners and stakeholders via technical presentations, as needed, incorporating risk mitigation strategies

  • Analyze and troubleshoot project technical issues in a timely manner

  • Manage, initiate, and coordinate the programmatic design of facility projects like workplace office fits ups and lab modification and design

  • Manage facility construction and shutdown activities at the Sanford, NC facility

  • Review and estimate costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, schedule, preparation, and other related costs

  • Mentor and train other Engineers when required

Must Have/Required

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, facilities, construction management, or a related discipline and 10+ years of progressive professional experience, or technical school certification or diploma in a related technical program, state certified licensing designation, and equivalent experience with 3+ years in a management or program management role

  • In-depth knowledge of engineering, building and site design, construction, operation, and maintenance

  • Broad knowledge of design and construction methods and processes related to building construction, mechanical infrastructure, and maintenance

  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations as they apply to design, construction, operations, and maintenance of buildings and building sites

  • Ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data, and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex matters of diverse scope and nature

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees

  • Ability to represent the company with trade partners, vendors, utility, and service providers

  • Excellent utilization of project management scheduling tools (Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project)

  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills to report and present findings to senior management and external parties

May Have/Preferred

  • Pharmaceutical/Biological/Biotech industry experience and related equipment, facilities and maintenance expertise and understanding of industry best practices

  • May travel to other site locations as needed
