Astellas is announcing a Manager, Data Repositories opportunity in Northbrook, IL or Chertsey, England.

Purpose & Scope:

Implements and accountable for data solutions to address Medical Affairs business needs, working in partnership with all Medical Affairs entities, Development, Finance, Legal, Compliance and IT. Manages and leads complex projects and/or applications within Medical Affairs. Manage and lead data operations and data quality within Medical Affairs data repositories in support of operational excellence.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads in defining Medical Affairs application and support requirements and documents IT requirements across Medical Affairs data repositories, including but not limited to Phase 3b/4 operational data, Non-Interventional studies (NIS), Core Medical Plan tactics and technology, Medical Education / Grants, Post-hoc analyses, Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR), Advisory Boards and related Medical Informatics
  • Leads and manages data repository projects and related activities
  • Manages and leads small to large-size data repository projects (< 250K USD) and provides ongoing updates or change notifications to Medical Affairs representatives and stakeholders
  • Leads and manages support tools to assist in collection of data to be integrated with data warehouse solutions across the enterprise
  • Ensures IT developed solutions meet the business needs of Medical Affairs and other key stakeholders (e.g., Development, Finance, Legal, Compliance)
  • Leads and manages data operations such as data extraction, data aggregation and data cleansing for data stored in MA data repositories to enable standardization to support Data Governance and Metrics & Reporting needs
  • Assesses whether agreed upon Medical Affairs business rules and data governance SOPs are implemented in systems developed by IT and informs appropriate stakeholders
  • Responsible for managing and monitoring QA/QC of data and reports findings to stakeholders
  • Responsible for project delivery and provides ongoing updates or change notifications to Medical Affairs representatives and stakeholders
  • Support and direct other team members to support their development and success

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Accuracy of analytics and reporting data as required by stakeholders
  • Successful communication of change, delays and outages to all MA stakeholders

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Data Science required
  • At least 5 years' experience in healthcare industry, with at least 3 years in a data/science analytics role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Strong leadership, project and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated collaboration in a matrix organization
  • Ability to manipulate complex data sets and with an appropriate set of programming tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Java, SAS, UNIX and/or Hadoop)
  • Recognizes problem situations and uses both formal and informal methods to find solutions
  • Demonstrated ability in taking initiative to proactively evaluate existing strategies and processes and recommend changes, when appropriate
  • Highly innovative and ability to propose and implement best-fit solutions leveraging current resources
  • Extensive computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, SharePoint, Access, Visio, Project and PowerPoint
  • Ability to translate between technical and business management to effectively achieve results
  • Recognizes problem situations and uses both formal and informal methods to find solutions
  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively to change, delay and/or shifting priorities and goals
  • Demonstrated ability in taking initiative to proactively evaluate existing strategies and processes and recommend changes, when appropriate
  • Self-directed, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with data warehouse reporting and related database management solutions
  • Excellent skills in the following areas: organization, written and verbal communication, accuracy, and personal initiative
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred

  • IT certifications in appropriate area
  • PMP certification
  • Masters or Doctoral level degree in data or computer sciences
  • Previous experience working in a pharmaceutical data environment
