Primary Responsibilities

The Role

The primary purpose of the Senior Manager, Business Operations & Strategic Partnerships is to work in close partnership with Research BD/Alliance Management and RTO Strategy & Project Management teams in the tracking and management of activities related to ongoing and future external transactions and collaborations. This role will be critical in delivering on business objectives supporting internal and external partnerships and acquisitions to balance the research portfolio for AGT. This role will liaise internally with BD/RTO Research functions to track key deliverables and milestones, support contract administration for external partnerships, and communicate partnership health checks to the executive team. The incumbent will develop and implement KPIs and performance metrics to track deliverables and identify issues as they arise internally or as a result of partner interactions and will support necessary stakeholders in formulating a position/strategy and participate in the resolution process.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Track and forecast activities and budget for all RTO licensing/partnership activities in collaboration with, e.g., AGT RTO functions, PFGR, Finance, Procurement and BD

  • Develop a clear understanding of all contracts relevant to partnership and work with teams to ensure flawless execution

  • Proactively identify and raise issues; act as a point of internal and joint escalation; develop and provide recommendations for resolutions

  • Lead account health progress checks internally, coordinating across diverse partnering activities, varying proposals/projects, etc.

  • Manage contract facilitation through execution, including creation of accompanying purchase orders for external collaborations.

  • Act as SAP/Ariba super user on behalf of RTO Strategy & Project Management as well as other AGT RTO functions, as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.

  • Delivery on divisional objectives

Quantitative Context :

  • This position reports to the Senior Director, Research & Technical Operations Strategy & Project Management at Astellas Gene Therapies.

  • The role will partner with groups including but not limited to RTO LT, PFGR, BD, Finance, Procurement and Legal.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree required. MBA and/or PhD strongly preferred, with 5+ years relevant work experience

  • 3+ years experience in the pharmaceutical industry working in Business Development, Alliance Management or related field.

  • Proven ability to navigate multi-faceted partnerships with success

Preferred

  • Entrepreneurial business approach; thrives in a high growth, rapidly evolving business environment

  • Proactive mindset that can operationalize implementable solutions, and can help move both internal and external stakeholders to quickly solve problems

  • Understanding of discovery and clinical development at pharma companies

  • Understanding of biology and therapeutic interventions in Gene Therapy

  • Exceptional account management, articulation of issues and an ability to navigate a wide range of stakeholders to solve problems

  • Interest in collaborations and business development

  • High degree of curiosity, willing to jump in to assist wherever needed

  • High emotional intelligence; effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly matrixed work environment

Salary Range: $126,000 $168,000 (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on experience)
