The Role

The Senior Research Associate will play a critical role in the development, optimization, and qualification of a variety of bioanalytical methods. These methods include ELISA, ECL, Western Blot, PCR, enzymological, and cell based measurements. The Associate will also employ the methods for routine analysis of study samples. As a key member of the Bioanalytics team, you will be contributing directly to these activities as hands-on experimenter and by analysis and interpretation of the data. The position will be located in our laboratory facilities in South San Francisco, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Routine extraction and preparation of protein and nucleic acid samples from a variety of biological specimens, including tissues.

  • Development and optimization of ELISA, MSD, Western Blot, and cell based methods

  • Development and optimization of enzymatic assays; routine analysis of biological samples with such assays

  • Quantification of proteins and antibodies in biological samples using ELISA and MSD

  • Purification of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies

  • Labelling of critical reagents such as proteins and antibodies with a variety of tags

  • Qualification and inventory reagents

  • Quantification DNA and RNA in biological samples using qPCR, ddPCR and RT-PCR

  • Tabulation of data in prescribed format amenable to analysis by statistical applications

  • Analysis of experimental results

  • Contemporaneous and error-free documentation of assay execution and results in lab notebooks and organized electronic folders

  • Consultation of scientific literature and other scientists to better understand scientific experiments and problems, and come up with solutions to emerging problems

About you

Must Have/Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline with 8+ years' experience or a Master's degree with 5+ years' experience

  • Hands on experience on Ligand Binding Assay (e.g., ELISA, MSD) method development and execution in biological sample analysis

  • Hands on experience with molecular assays such as QPCR, ddPCR

  • Thorough understanding and proven experience with biochemical techniques, such as isolation and quantification of proteins, ELISA, Western Blot, enzymological, and cell based methods

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Prior success working flexibly in a cross-functional team environment

May Have/Preferred

  • Experience with SoftMax Pro, GraphPad, Excel (Pivot Table), and similar applications

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, such as isolation and quantification of nucleic acids, cDNA synthesis, cloning, DNA sequencing, RT-qPCR, etc.

  • Familiarity with FDA bioanalytical method validation guideline
