Astellas is announcing a Scientist I, Tumor Immuno-Biology, Immunohistochemistry Lead opportunity at their Xyphos site in South San Francisco, CA.

Job Description:

Xyphos Biosciences (South San Francisco, CA), an Astellas company is seeking Scientist I to join our Tumor Immuno-Biology group. The scientific focus of this role is improving the permissiveness of solid tumors to immune effector cells. The prospective hire is expected to advance understanding of solid tumor microenvironment. The successful candidate will focus on addressing the questions of T- and NK cells homing to tumor site, challenges of immunosuppressive components in the TME, tumor heterogeneity and physical barrier. The position requires experience in solid tumor biology, cell biology and/or immunology. The successful candidate is expected to establish and support in-house pathology and immunohistochemistry efforts aiming in enhance our understanding of cell therapy in solid tumors.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and oversee day to day operation of Astellas Immuno-histochemisty Core, South San Francisco

  • Execute sample preparation for the colorimetric and fluorescent analyses of antigen expression in tissue samples

  • Design and execute studies focused on understanding immune cells in the tumor microenvironment by advanced multi-dimensional immunofluorescence imaging

  • Develop IHC/IF protocols for novel targets

  • Utilize Advance Image processing software for sample analysis

  • Contribute to the development of Astellas data share platform in collaboration with Astellas AI department

  • In close collaboration with in vivo Pharmacology team perform ex vivo tissue processing and analysis

  • Effectively communicate with team members to efficiently conduct studies, articulate experimental details and results with other members of the Astellas research organization

Qualifications:

Required

  • PhD in biophysics or a closely related fields with 2+ years postdoctoral experience in an academic or industry setting.

  • Hands on experience with tissue processing, sectioning, colorimetric and fluorescent analysis

  • Hands on experience with flow cytometry with ability to design and implement multi-color flow assays

  • Familiarity with methods used to validate tumor and immune cells

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential with collegiality being a defining attribute

  • Strong work ethic with a dedicated mindset of proactively identifying and productively filling gaps

  • Ability to maintain highly detailed, accurate, and timely records of experimental designs, results, and data analysis

Salary Range

  • $99K – $132K (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on experience)
