Astellas is announcing a Senior Human Resources Manager in Seattle, WA.

Purpose & Scope:

Focused on driving business success, the Senior HR Manager position provides consultative guidance, strategic and operational support to assigned client groups, to ensure that the three west coast Drug Discovery and Research organizations (Universal Cells, Astellas Regenerative Institute Americas & Astellas Venture Management) achieve their business goals. Additionally this includes the identification and resolution of critical issues for the client groups and the implementation of HR policies and practices that align to global HR strategic objectives. Providing strategic guidance and partnership to assigned senior level leaders at multiple site locations across two different and uniquely challenging legal jurisdictions.

In support of their internal clients, this position will work collaboratively with HR Centre of Expertise (Total Rewards, HR Operations and Organizational Effectiveness) as well as their Talent Acquisition partners, to ensure timely delivery of business solutions within the framework of the global HR strategy. The HRBP team seeks to add value to discussions with business leaders, making compelling business cases for HR initiatives and offer insights and analysis to the business to aid effective decision making, while also supporting the flawless execution of Astellas HR management processes and tools.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Partners with local management teams to understand key business priorities and HR implications

  • Collaborates with HR team members and HR COE partners to define and oversee workforce planning activities and EVP positioning.

  • Applying strategic focus and spends approx. 30% of time on strategic issues such as talent planning, talent management, employee engagement and organizational design efforts.

  • Leads the business through the delivery of key programs in support of strategic goals.

  • Communicates HR priorities and goals with leaders to ensure an effective partnership

  • Supports local site management teams in initiatives such as comp planning, leadership development, employee communications, organizational design, change management and performance management

  • Works with management to proactively identify HR issues and creative solutions to support the business needs. This may include conducting exit interviews, and/or analyzing exit interview trends. Coaches managers and employees as appropriate. Develops, proposes, and implements plan to address issues.

  • Works with management for assigned organization on compensation issues. Collaborates with Compensation team to ensure jobs are accurately evaluated in a timely manner, and that total compensation is competitive.

  • Ensures that human resources policies and programs assist managers in attaining business objectives for assigned organizations. Protects interests of employees in accordance with company's policies and applicable labor, and pay and benefits laws and regulations. Works with management for assigned organizations in EEO compliance and in the development of plans to AAP goals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • This position has indirect impact on timely completion of performance reviews, merit and budget administration for assigned organization.

  • Typically supports a client group of up to 200 employees.

Organizational Context:

  • This position reports into the Director Human Resources supporting an assigned organization.

  • Partners with HR specialists, HR Managers, Assistant and Associate Directors on HR initiatives.

  • Serves as a team member for HR lead initiatives.



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business.

  • At least 7 years Human Resources experience required, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries.

  • Demonstrated Human Resources generalist knowledge required, specifically including a strong background in employment law and relations for organizations operating within the State of California,

  • Incumbent must have demonstrated ability to work in a challenging, multi-cultural work environment.

  • Ability to manage confidential information imperative, including influencing others to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Some travel required, up to 20% depending on assigned organizations.


  • Master's degree.
