Universal Cells , an affiliate of Astellas located in Seattle, WA, is focused on the development and commercialization of stem cell and regenerative medicine therapies. Universal Cells (UCI) is announcing a Research Associate I, Core Technologies opportunity at their facility in Seattle, WA .

Purpose:

The primary purpose of a Research Associate I for our Core Technologies Department is to contribute to the further molecular engineering for our gene edited Universal Donor Cells. They will work as a key member on a fast-paced team to culture pluripotent stem cells as well as run molecular and cellular assays to characterize our proprietary Universal Donor Cells.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Routinely performs aseptic cell culture of pluripotent stems cells for general maintenance or experiment execution.

  • Performs standard molecular biology techniques including primer design, molecular cloning, and Sanger sequencing as needed.

  • Demonstrates willingness to learn new protocols, relevant equipment, and related software.

  • Maintains accurate records and assists other team members with recording and compiling experimental data in a timely manner.

  • Summarizes and presents data in both oral and written formats.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.

Organizational Context:

  • As part of a busy team, with minimal guidance, this role will work on multiple components of a project in the lab, interacting with multiple functions or research groups. Collaboration and teamwork are necessary for optimal performance.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Education:

  • Associate I: BS Degree with 0-3 years or AA Degree 2-4 of relevant hands-on laboratory experience.

  • Associate :II BS Degree with 3+ years or MS Degree with 0-2 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience

  • Experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture

  • Strong organizational, time management skills, and the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.

  • Self-motivated with good time management skills.

  • Team player; collaborating effectively with various team members and other departments.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with other team members.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong work ethic with a passion to learn and work in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and think critically, with careful attention to detail.

  • Flexibility to work shifted schedule with at least one weekend day.

Preferred:

  • Experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture.

  • Experience with pluripotent stem cell culture techniques.

  • Experience with in vitro rAAV gene editing.

  • Experience with molecular cloning and PCR.

  • Experience with in vivo models.
