Universal Cells (UCI) is announcing a Principal Scientist, Immunology and PSCs opportunity at their facility in Seattle, WA .
Purpose:
The Principal Scientist Immunology and PSC position is a scientific lead-from-the-bench role focused on planning, execution, and future development of immunology and pluripotent stem cell (PSC) research.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Leadership from the bench. This position is expected to demonstrate leadership through not only planning, and communication, but through hands-on execution of experiments.
Applies a high degree of scientific rigor to all aspects of the job, including experimental design, analysis, execution, and interpretation.
Responsible for the design and execution of studies related to immunological cell phenotype and function, including antigen presenting cells and T cells,
Responsible for the differentiation of PSCs to diverse cell types and their characterization.
Remain at the forefront of scientific literature on program relevant immunology and PSC research and translates understanding to innovation in scientific projects.
Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols/SOPs, and presentations. Regularly present findings at group meetings and to upper management to support program-level, data-driven decisions.
Understand and participate in development of project timelines, deliverables, and priorities.
Take a leadership role in supporting cross-functional knowledge sharing and collaborate research projects.
Collaborates with colleagues across Universal Cells and other Astellas sites, including support of process and method transfer related to manufacture of Universal Donor Cell therapies.
Performs other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.
Quantitative Dimensions:
- This Principal Scientist is directly responsible for rigorous planning, execution, and communication of experimental efforts leading to new candidate products for diverse indications.
Organizational Context:
Reports to Senior Director, Immunology at Universal Cells.
Closely collaborates with colleagues within Research & Development and other departments at Universal Cells and other Astellas sites.
Contributes to organizational health of the research division through creating a psychologically safe, learning, and high-performance culture
Qualifications:
Required:
PhD. in cell biology, immunology, or a related field, with an additional 8+ years of relevant post-graduate experience.
MS with 10+ years or BS with 15+ years of highly relevant experience
Strong expertise in Immunology, as well as pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation.
Deep understanding of PSC differentiation and hematopoietic/immune cell biology.
Demonstrated ability to lead-from-the-bench.
Prioritization of scientific rigor in planning and execution of experiments.
Ability to distill project timelines and deliverables to specific objectives.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and ability to effectively collaborate with other teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong work ethic with a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment.
Preferred:
- Prior industry experience
Salary Range
- $130,500 – $174,000 (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on experience)
