Purpose: The Director, Field HEOR (Field Health Economics & Outcomes Research) has primary responsibility for developing and implementing the Astellas Medical Strategy for prioritized portfolio organization, including Health Plans, Pharmacy Benefit Managers, and select Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) and Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN). This position requires expertise in building relevant evidence plans within the evolving US health care and managed care landscape and mastering the principles of health economics & clinical outcomes research. Specifically, this individual will: * develop and partner with other MAA and commercial stakeholders in the implementation of the Organizational Strategy and Tactics for their key prioritized National Accounts and corporatized partners * act as the primary Medical Affairs (MA) point of contact to key decision makers within identified payer and provider systems, developing tailored, evidence based scientific exchange and clinical decision support solutions for the Astellas portfolio * provide leadership and strategic consultation across internal and field medical and commercial colleagues with a focus on HEOR research, pipeline support, and real-world informatics Essential Job Responsibilities: * Leads and coaches and mentors other MAA colleagues in the execution of organizational management activities for prioritized organization through proven deep knowledge of the organization and the ability to marshal Medical Affairs Americas resources to meet stakeholder and key decision maker (KDM) needs * Develop Organizational Strategies aligned with the Core Medical Plans based on in-depth understanding of healthcare landscape dynamics and stakeholder needs * Sought out by MAA leadership to support CMPs based in-depth knowledge of prioritized organizations research interests and capabilities, stakeholders, infrastructure, healthcare landscape responses, and governance * As a trusted advisor, engage in strategic scientific exchange with key stakeholders and senior-level decision makers that enhances our knowledge in the areas of clinical and HEOR research, healthcare policy, and healthcare innovations. * Sought out by MAA colleagues to identify key data gaps and customize HEOR research based on comprehensive understanding of CMPs and the voice of the customer (VOC) * Create clear communication plans for a diverse set of stakeholders (i.e. provider, payer, Specialty Pharmacy, PBM, etc.) to address the HEOR and clinical value of the Astellas portfolio needs utilizing knowledge of clinical data, HEOR data and current healthcare policy * Seek opportunities to collaborate with organizations that have strengths aligned with our CMPs * Provide medical expertise to internal stakeholders in training and interpretation of key scientific data and health policy trends * Actively build compliant bridges between internal colleagues by working to remove barriers to collaboration (i.e. facilitate connections, share best practices, build trust) * Sought out by Leaders to represent Astellas on appropriate managed markets and health economic issues at regional and national forums, conferences, and professional associations; including monitoring and communicating activities by such bodies to internal stakeholders * Coach/mentor peers in maximizing, managing and sharing resources and best practices, champions HEOR goals by supporting, encouraging and sharing information with team members, and serves as a key force in enhancing cohesion and effectiveness of HEOR by fostering cross team collaboration Qualifications: Required * Advanced scientific degree, e.g. PharmD, PhD, MD and at least 5 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry or relevant experience in similar life science function, preferably in Medical Affairs or related functions * Extensive knowledge and ability to of US healthcare delivery systems (e.g. accountable care, managed care, pharmacy benefit management, government [Medicare, Medicaid]) and solid understanding of policy issues * Ability to work under pressure, to take accountability for business challenges, think strategically and tackle complex problems * Strong analytical skills and strategic focus * Ability to develop and execute strategic priorities * Willing to travel for business * Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment * Demonstrated flexibility in technical expertise across disease areas * Proven ability to effectively communicate and negotiate through a matrix organization * Effective oral and written communication, presentation, and coaching skills * Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously * Proven ability to effectively communicate scientific information * Solid understanding of US healthcare delivery systems (e.g. accountable care, managed care, pharmacy benefit management, government [Medicare, Medicaid]) and solid understanding of policy issues * Solid understanding of the interface between clinical practice, managed health care and outcomes research * Demonstrated business acumen, strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills * Experience and knowledge of government and private payer relationships * Strong presentation and teaching skills * Demonstrated ability to work independently * Solid computer skills (MS Office and Windows) with willingness to learn new applications * Approximately 40% travel required Preferred * Minimum five (5) years pharmaceutical field based medical experience strongly preferred * Direct experience in a payer environment strongly preferred * Prior experience in working remotely and managing frequent travel schedule * Thorough understanding of FDA, PhRMA, OIG, and ACCME guidelines as they relate to HEOR and Medical Affairs #LI-CH1 Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Disabled Category Medical Affairs
