Vice President of Marketing, Medical Specialties

An exciting opportunity exists to lead the US Marketing team for Medical Specialties! The Vice President of Marketing, Medical Specialties, will lead the organization through an exciting and dynamic time, supporting a significant period of growth fueled by new launches and new indications. This represents an outstanding opportunity for a senior leader to truly deliver on the Astellas vision of turning innovative science into value for patients.

Purpose & Scope:

Overall responsibility for leading US Medical Specialties Marketing team and turning innovative science into value for patients across eight marketed products. Responsible for delivering annual sales and operating Income goals in an ethical and compliant manner while driving significant annual growth in both. This role also ensures the successful launch of multiple new products and indications in competitive marketplaces and matrixed responsibility for other Commercial enablement functions.

  • Leads the creation and execution of US Brand Plans in alignment with corporate Mid Term Plans and is responsible to provide full commercial leadership to maximize product and portfolio value in alignment with Corporate Strategy Plan, Mid Term Plans overall growth strategy.

  • Pro-actively develops functional area to prepare for the evolving future to ensure long-term sustainable success, including innovative go-to-market strategies, continuous brand life-cycle management, and development of clear and compelling product value propositions for a variety of patient, provider and payers

  • For the US Medical Specialties Marketing function, lead change and transformation initiatives, driving excellence in translation of strategy into operating model, organization design, risk management, communication, employee engagement, culture and talent retention and development

  • Leads the marketing department efficiently by creating and communicating a compelling vision and executes personally and through effective delegation of goals

  • Directs the leadership assessment and succession planning initiatives for the Marketing Department

  • Leads and motivates diverse teams within the marketing organization with vision, integrity and flexibility

  • Collaborate closely with Medical Affairs, Development, and enabling teams to identify, fund, and commence mid- and long-term strategic initiatives in support of the broader US-C strategic objectives

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Sales Budget : By driving the highest-level strategic decisions as well as those that affect tactical implementation, allocation of budget and human resources, this position has the highest degree of impact on both the short- and long-term revenues and profits of the company.

  • A&P Budget : As the leader of the Marketing organization, this position has the most direct impact on the utilization of resources across the brand portfolio, reflecting appropriate prioritization and lifecycle stage.

Organizational Context:

The Vice President of MSBU Marketing is one of the highest visibility positions within the US organization. It is highly collaborative and interacts with similar high-level individuals across all functional areas within the organization and outside (i.e., domestic and global strategic partners, governmental agencies, professional organizations, etc.). The Vice President of MSBU Marketing reports to the Senior Vice President, MSBU Business Unit.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree

  • A minimum of 15 years of marketing or related experience (including sales, finance, forecasting, market research, etc.)

  • Must have at least 5 years' experience as a senior marketing leader.

  • Prior experience in and collaboration with sales, sales management and/or managed care is essential.

  • Superior leadership skills that lead to the development of highly functioning marketing organization through motivation and development of personnel.

  • A deep understanding of the market dynamics and stakeholders with a demonstrated ability to maneuver within a dynamic, changing environment.

  • Ability to integrate input from key stakeholders and take a long-term view of brand strategies.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (30%-50%).

  • The position is located out of the Northbrook office, but the successful candidate can be located remotely as long as expectations are met regarding the ability to foster relationships with direct reports and broader stakeholders

Preferred

  • MBA degree, advanced degree or continued education in business.

  • Recent (over the past 5 years) previous experience in consumer-packaged goods marketing and/or consumer pharmaceutical marketing
