Purpose & Scope:

The Senior Manager, Procurement Sourcing Lead will provide delivery and leadership of identified categories on a Regional/global basis and be accountable for all supply-related aspects for given categories. Will ensure industry leading value while maintaining alignment with the business needs.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Take the lead on developing, implementing and subsequently reviewing procurement strategies for the whole procurement cycle in a specific category/sub-category spend area

  2. Conducting strategic sourcing initiatives, including fact-based negotiations (supplier and industry analysis, benchmarks, cost structure analysis) for relevant categoriesEngage with internal partners in order to generate ideas and opportunities and ensure the Category strategy and plans are aligned to functional and business targets. Collect demand of business units; if required, align with key supplier management across regions

  3. Champion TCO reductions and ensure annual value delivery objectives for the Strategic Procurement of assigned category are met

  4. Determine and continually monitor current supply market position in the specific category spend area to identify risks. Recommend actions to mitigate risks

  5. Defining supplier management strategy and implementing strategic supplier relationship management with key suppliers

  6. Implement both supplier rationalization programs and strategies to develop new sources of supply as appropriate to optimize competition

  7. Support Marketing and Stakeholder Engagement plans in order to create positive working relationships with senior regional/sub-global partners; using these relationships to influence and win support for Procurement transformation

  8. Monitor the performance of both individual services/products and their category/subcategory. Using this information, continuously assess their sub-category/category strategies and develop solutions to improve performance

  9. Be recognized as a Category subject matter expert for the Category and apply this knowledge to act as a 'Change Agent' for implementing new commercial models and ways of working

Organizational Context:

This role reports to the Category Manager (who subsequently reports to the Global Category Lead) responsible for a defined set of spend, and will have cross functional relationships with Business unit key stakeholders., Key Finance Leadership,ยท Procurement Leadership Teams, Global Category Leads, Category Managers & Sourcing Managers, Astellas affiliate employees, and external vendors

Qualifications: Required

  • College Degree required

  • 5 or more years in a successful, multi-year track record in Procurement and in-depth understanding of the Category Management process

  • Prior experience in Marketing-related categories, in the Market Research or Market Data categories

  • Negotiation skills with ability to achieve the optimal commercial solutions while maintaining credibility with long term supplier relationships.

  • Understanding of legal requirements and risk management within procurement projects

  • Extensive experience managing suppliers including supplier development, drivers of costs, understanding of relevant markets and supply relationship management

  • Experience in all Procurement fields including Procurement Strategy, Strategic Sourcing and Category Management

  • Experience in financial analysis techniques to analyze reports, determine product and category performance, and seek ways to improve performance

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills (multiple complex analyses simultaneously)

  • Advanced sourcing toolkit and supply base management experience

  • Excellent analytical skills and advanced negotiation and contractual skills

  • Past experience of developing innovative commercial solutions using a wide range of value levers

  • Strong understanding of Category Strategy formulation and execution and the different approaches to be applied to different kinds of spend & supply markets
