Purpose and Scope:
The Senior Manager Scientific Content Excellence is responsible for processes, operations and technology that enables the creation and maintenance of the Medical Affairs (MA) Scientific Communication Platform (SCP), central scientific content and associated medical materials for all ESMA, prioritized global Astellas products and therapeutic areas (TAs). This position will be responsible for contributing to the development, embedding and monitoring the omni-channel digital transformation ambition and will be the owner of applicable global digital repositories. The position will establish, own and optimize the associated SOPs and operating models and monitor compliance with applicable processes and governance.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Scientific Content Excellence
Business Process Owner for global digital repositories for central scientific content and other non-promotional medical materials across all Astellas priority products / TAs
Responsible for selecting, configuring and implementing internal digital tools to make central scientific content easily retrievable and usable by the entire MA community (incl. Global, Region, Affiliates) through medical portals, slide sorters and other relevant tools.
Responsible for operationalizing global scientific content strategy across all Astellas priority products / TAs and related customer experience through effective and efficient operating models.
Responsible for the oversight and development of end-to- end content operations standards, governance frameworks, monitoring mechanisms, and other efficiency and operational management tools.
Responsible for the successful onboarding of an external content librarian team within the centralized global production hub to manage and assist in the storage and retrieval of content and other process-oriented tasks.
Responsible for monitoring and optimizing Digital Asset Management (DAM) through development and measurement of DAM KPIs (e.g., content re-use, content time to market, MLR review/approval cycles)
Responsible for monitoring compliance with meta-data and taxonomy standards in DAM platforms and resolving non-adherence via (Associate) Directors SCI.
Responsible in collaboration with Data Intelligence for the strategy on data capturing on scientific content use and its relevance and value for the external HCPs/stakeholders and ensuring actionable feedback loop to the content creation teams.
Integrated Medical Insights Excellence
In collaboration with Digital Excellence (DE) establish and maintain global medical insights platform across all Astellas priority products / TAs
Responsible in partnership with DE for optimizing medical insights assessment/analysis process through digital innovation and automation
Collaborate with AIA and DE to utilize artificial intelligence and natural language processing capabilities/tools to analyze data generated through MA activities to identify medical insights.
Omni-Channel Scientific Communications
Understand the strategic needs of the broader Omni-Channel digital transformation ambition and enables such transition as relevant.
Orchestrates omni-channel interactions aimed at addressing the informational needs of HCPs/external stakeholders and facilitate the implementation of scientific narrative, deliverables and content tools
Drives innovative communication methods that improve customer experience and ensure MA communication is timely, relevant and delivered in preferred formats/channels; ensuring that Medical Communications delivers aligned with industry standards and is an industry leader in communication delivery
Governance
Demonstrates mastery of all Astellas and alliance (if applicable) SOPs related to medical review
Responsible for processes that govern governance of scientific content and other non-promotional MA materials
Owns repository (ies) that enable and document review and approval of scientific content and associated materials
Responsible for monitoring if review/approval of central scientific content and other MA materials is adhering to applicable Astellas standards and procedures, and support (associate) directors SCI with resolving/ mitigating non-adherence.
Quantitative Dimensions:
Business Process Owner for 3-5 systems and tools associated with SCI per assignment of Director SCI Excellence (e.g., Digital Assessment Management platform, MLR tool, medical portal, slide sorter, insights platform, Adobe Experience Manager, SCP technology)
Process owner of formal procedures for scientific content and non-promotional MA materials (e.g., SOP and associated procedures)
Owner of 1-3 operating models/ business processes associated with central scientific content and insights
Organizational Context:
Reports to Director SCI Excellence
Collaborate closely with other Medical Communications Excellence functions to ensure integrated medical communication processes, data governance and operating models
Contributes SCI excellence expertise to MA Teams, and other cross-functional workstreams
Demonstrate excellent partnership with (associate) Director SCI and of Scientific Core Content matrix teams which are sub teams of Core Medical Teams.
Pro-active collaboration with Operational Excellence (e.g., Process & Standards Excellence, Digital Excellence, Data Intelligence)
Collaborates closely with Commercial Omnichannel Operations (OCO) to identify appropriate opportunities for collaboration or best practices sharing to optimize and drive efficiency and innovation
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Health-Related Sciences or Business/IS with prior industry experience in leading team efforts in a highly matrixed organization and strong evidence of communications experience and impact
Minimum 5 years scientific/medical experience in global pharmaceutical industry environment
Minimum 3 years’ experience in MA (preferably experience in external engagement, content creation and material review)
Ability to work in a global matrix environment with flexibility and organization awareness.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly adopt and utilize new digital technology and other resources
Experience owning global processes, systems and digital repositories.
Demonstrates business acumen.
Thorough understanding of legal/regulatory/compliance requirements and guidelines with respect to medical information in the pharmaceutical industry
Excellent written and oral communication skill
Ability to work independently and lead a team without direct reporting lines in a matrix environment with proven flexibility and organizational awareness
Ability to recognize and anticipate problems and create and manage complex projects
Ability to effectively collaborate across multiple functions and regions including Medical, Medical Information, Operational Excellence and Information Systems
Must be decisive, exercise good judgement in decisions, organize and with the ability to prioritize a large workload.
Ability to manage resources, program and multiple projects
Breath of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities, including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and deliver impactful value
