Purpose & Scope:

The Senior Manager, Knowledge Solutions Lead will drive and deliver initiatives to build and evolve capabilities, solutions, and processes that make a tangible impact on the business. The specific focus will be on improving innovation and decision making by connecting Astellas employees to the collective knowledge, insights, and experiences of the entire company ("knowledge management"). This will help Astellas get the most value out its people and its unstructured data, two of its greatest assets. This individual will:

  • engage stakeholders and end users across the company to deeply understand their business problems

  • think strategically to translate business needs into capabilities and solutions that better connect people to knowledge and insights: connecting people to content (e.g. unstructured data and information like documents, multimedia) and people to people (e.g. experts or colleagues with relevant experiences)

  • bring those capabilities and solutions (people, process, technology) to life by working closely with a variety of stakeholders -- business customers, Information Services (IS) partners, vendors, and 3rd parties around the world

The scope is global and across the entire Astellas enterprise

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive and execute a wide variety of digital initiatives and projects in areas like: enterprise search, content management, content curation, information architecture (taxonomies, ontologies, metadata), corporate people profiles, expertise location, communities of practice, question and answer forums, recommender systems, information access rights/security/classification, etc. Provide detailed guidance and direction to stakeholders across all aspects of people, process, and technology.

  • Execute across multiple workstreams, including: business strategy, customer research, user experience, measurement, change management, legal and data privacy, process design/improvement, and digital technology implementation. Directly contribute to and oversee the efforts of others to implement and execute.

  • Collaborate virtually with cross-functional teams both internal and external to Astellas, such as: Information Systems, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, HR, AIA, various business units, and vendors.

  • Operate at the intersection of business and technology, applying innovative technologies and processes to business problems. This includes providing key input into digital technology approaches and priorities by ensuring alignment with business use cases and context, evaluating outputs, analyzing and optimizing data sources, and making data-driven product decisions.

  • Number of content sources incorporated and/or optimized

  • Business units engaged, including affiliates, etc.

  • Pilot execution and insights captured and synthesized

Organizational Context:

This role sits within the AIA group and requires collaboration both within AIA and across all divisions. This role may be responsible for project resources, including contractors.

Qualifications: Required

  • 3+ years of experience in digital transformation strategy and product management within a large, global enterprise

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to research, understand, and apply innovative technologies -- especially with unstructured information. Examples: search, content management, knowledge repositories, ontologies, social bookmarking and curation, text analytics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), classification, recommender systems, knowledge graph, etc.

  • Experience working with internal and external resources, including vendors and technology teams, to deliver high quality at pace within an Agile approach

  • Ability to design, manage, and improve processes around unstructured information (documents, text/image/video-based content)

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently on multiple parallel workstreams and projects

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently on detailed level tasks

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced English business language proficiency

  • Relevant Bachelor's degree

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, or equivalent.

  • Experience with legal, data privacy, GDPR, ethics & compliance.

  • Experience with digital strategy and product management in a pharmaceutical context. Experience in cross-cultural project management and communication.

  • Experience within a Japanese language and cultural context.
