Purpose & Scope:

The Senior Manager, Learning & Development will be responsible for supporting the design, development and implementation programs, tools & services related to both professional development for employees and high potential programs for top talent at key inflection points in their career journey. This role will provide design and development support to build global learning programs, tools & services for employees, people managers and senior leaders.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Design, test, deploy and evaluate global programs, tools and services (delivered regionally) for individual contributors, people managers and high potentials

Including ensuring that the latest content is delivered through excellent modalities as needed to build individual capabilities within the general population and contribute to increased organizational effectiveness and overall increase in organizational capacity. This may include online & classroom professional development for individual contributors, online & classroom for people managers and high potential programs at key inflection points in the employee career lifecycle (Emerging Leaders Program, the Developing Leader Series, the Senior Leadership Series). Evaluates the effectiveness of learning solutions for their impact and continuously improves.

  1. Incorporate Astellas best practice & external best practice

Including ensuring that both external and internal best practices are vetted for each program, tool or service along with grounding in the Astellas culture and current business environment. Also including utilizing feedback & input from direct manager who has gained input on needs from the L&D LT and HR Business Partners input to ensure that programs & services are meeting or exceeding client expectations and benefiting Astellas overall in terms of building overall organizational capabilities.

  1. Support excellent program execution & delivery by providing vendor management and collaborating with specialists to coordinate program and service delivery

Including New Employee Induction, professional development for individual contributors & people managers (online & classroom), career development high potential programs, Executive Coaching for high potentials, and 360-assessments.

  1. Contribute to the team by being exceptionally customer-focused and striving to go above and beyond to support other excellent learning solutions

Demonstrates strong customer-focus mindset, strives for excellence and goes above and beyond to ensure exceptional design, development & delivery of learning programs in concert with our learning strategy. Also builds strong relationships with Strategic Vendor Partners, colleagues across the Learning & Development team, HR Business Partners and client groups to help support continuous improvement on design & delivery. Ensures solutions are marketed to ensure high update of learning solutions across the region and the clients they support in Global projects.

  1. Contributes to overall reputation of the global Learning & Development team by consistently delivering strong learning programs

Across all functional business areas including Commercial, Shared Services, M&D and other global functions. Actively contribute to leadership, providing appropriate insight, support and challenge, and role modelling the Astellas Way.

  1. Develops Learning Processes that support a mature learning organization

Creates Global, Regional and local learning processes in accordance with HR Operations Team that delivers operationally efficient Learning and Development services and provisions. This includes maximizing and full utilization of learning technologies e.g. LMS.

  1. Manages local L&D needs in alignment with the Global L&D agenda (no more than 10% of role). Ensures local L&D requests are prioritized appropriately, aligned to Global L&D Tower, and ensures maximization of resources and budget for Astellas. Sources appropriate external L&D solutions, and where there are capacity designs, delivers solutions and/or feeds back local L&D needs into the Global L&D agenda.

  2. Manages and ensures any local legislative learning processes related to Professional and Leadership & Management Development are met e.g. GDPR, Workers Councils requirements if appropriate. Develops appropriate policies and procedures maximizing efficiency, and educates relevant stakeholders are educated and consulted. Monitors and ensures policies are followed and continuously improves them and digitizes where appropriate.

  3. Manage expenses to ensure budget constraints are met

In partnership with direct manager and the L&D LT, take ownership for managing expenses to meet budget in accordance with the guidelines defined by Finance, Procurement and HR Leadership, escalating early to line manager any concerns or issues.

Quantitative Dimensions:

This role will support programs, tools & services for all 14,000 plus Astellas employees. It will also contribute to the delivery of excellent learning at the individual contributor, people manager and senior leader levels. In addition, it will support the development of high potentials and thus is a key part of the Attract, Develop, Retain HR focus

Experience

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree, either BA or BS

  • A minimum of 5-8 + years progressive experience in Learning and Development roles

  • Strong business acumen skills

  • Proven experience of collaborating effectively for strong performance in a learning & development team

  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation to achieve business results

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills and strong motivation to "team up"

  • Strong detail orientation

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Strong communication skills and ability to keep others appropriately included & informed

  • Effective presentation skills and solid stand-up training experience

  • Fluent in written and verbal business English

Preferred Experience:

  • Pharma sector experience with strong customer focus; in multi-disciplinary, matrix and cross-cultural settings.

  • Experience working a global learning & development team

  • Graduate Degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant HR, L&D or OD subject area
