Astellas is announcing a Senior Manager, Collaborations Finance & Business Partnering opportunity in Northbrook, IL
Purpose & Scope:
The position plays a key role in Americas and Global Finance in support of the following:
Leads financial components, including reconciliation of actual results, FP&A, technical accounting and internal controls of assigned Astellas partnership agreements, which are impacted by Medical & Development, Medical Affairs, APUS, Marketing Strategies, CMC/Manufacturing, and other Astellas organizations. This requires close coordination with external companies.
Responsible for valuation and impairment testing of Astellas US intangible assets.
Strategic financial partner and decision support for assigned therapeutic areas.
Lead Global financial planning processes for assigned in-licenses and co-promotion agreements by effectively collaborating with functional personnel, both internally and externally, ensuring alignment and clear understanding of financial assumptions while meeting required timelines. Ensure financial data shared with external partners is in agreement with financial data provided to Astellas Senior Leadership. Through analysis of the financial data, identify discrepancies between Astellas and our partners and work with appropriate functional areas and Alliance Management to drive resolution.
Lead accounting, financial reporting and JSOX/IFRS aspects of assigned partnership agreements, including third party and intercompany royalties, ensuring full documentation and reporting compliance. Activities include but are not limited to: leading period end accounting closings, partner financial reconciliations, quarterly reconciliation payments/receipts, coordinating milestone payments and royalty accounting activities.
Pro-actively work with Financial Reporting, API Finance, APEL Finance and the Company's external auditors to ensure all accounting issues are properly treated from an IFRS perspective.
Understand accounting treatments globally to ensure global consolidated results can be explained to Senior Leadership and our partners.
Represent Astellas at collaboration Executive Committee meetings through providing financial stewardship and support, presenting financial results and forecasts and by understanding differences between internal and external financial planning assumptions.
Collaborate with Global Finance, Medical & Development, Medical Affairs, Manufacturing/CMC/Technology, GMS, APUS, API, EMEA, Alliance Management and other teams as needed so appropriate personnel have a thorough understanding of assumptions and financial impacts included financial plans and actual results of Astellas and our Partners.
Lead all partnership reporting requirements amongst Astellas functional groups and external partners (budgeting, forecasting, accounting closing, royalty and milestone payments, etc.)
Collaborate cross functionally to aid in design and integration of financial reporting and accounting processes for new contractual co-promotional agreements.
Lead and coordinate partnership audits of our financial records for assigned partnerships. Contribute to audits of collaborative partner books.
Strategic financial business partner and trusted adviser to assist in decision making for assigned therapeutic areas / brands. Activities include but are not limited to the following: influencing strategic priorities, financial stewardship, ad hoc financial modeling and financial ROI analytics.
Fair value impairment testing for acquired IPR&D.
In addition to the above, the position will be responsible for other activities, including but not limited to the following: providing analytical support and variance analyses to key internal and external stakeholders; identifying, suggesting and implementing processes that improve efficiency and accuracy related to the area's responsibilities.
This position will have direct impact on the compilation, review and audit of financial data and reporting for the collaboration agreements that affect recording and modeling of revenue and expenses impacting the following financial operational processes:
Financial planning and analyses
Accounting closings (monthly, quarterly and annual) and JSOX/IFRS requirements
Financial and collaborative reporting and reconciliation activities, including third party and intercompany royalties.
In addition, this position will provide strategic financial support and sound financial stewardship for assigned portion of the Oncology and Medical Specialties franchises with combined annual net revenues in excess of $4 billion and operating income in excess of $2 billion
This position reports to the Director, Commercial Finance who reports to the Executive Director, Commercial Finance U.S.
BA/BS in Accounting
5-7+ years previous finance and accounting experience.
Proven verbal and written communication skills with various levels of management.
Working knowledge of internal controls and J-Sox, IFRS and US GAAP.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Proven work experience in execution of collaboration skills.
Strong computer skills with required proficiency in Microsoft Office applications like Excel.
Pharmaceutical industry experience a plus.
CPA certification, MBA a plus.
Experience in working with SAP financial systems.
