Purpose and Scope:
The Sr. Manager Business Strategy & Applications (BSA) provides robust solutions from complex and high-dimensional internal and external datasets using state-of-the-art data science, data mining, simulation and modeling techniques. The Sr. Manager will lead large and/or complex projects, interact with cross- functional/cross-division teams, and will be responsible for the analytical soundness of all project plans, output and deliverables for the assigned projects. Projects will span across all therapeutic areas, functions and geographies. The deliverables of the Sr. Manager BSA are an integral part of the business decision-making and require expertise in creation, quality control and maintenance of statistical programs for the creation of tables, figures and listings. The Sr. Manager will be able to recognize statistical issues as they create project plans, data definitions and analyses and will be able to collaborate with the customer, Director of BSA, and/or Advanced Informatics & Analytics (AIA) colleagues to address these issues.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Advising on analytics plan or simulation designs across approved projects, especially in support of the corporate strategic plan
Meets regularly with internal and external stakeholders to identify projects aligned with the corporate strategic plan
Collaborate with analysts located across the Astellas business via targeted training, consultations, and review
Executing analytics projects using R, SAS, SQL, Python or other statistical programming languages to prepare and/or merge data assets and perform statistical analysis
Executing simulation designs using R, SAS, Python and simulation software such as AnyLogic, Simul8, and Simulink
Contribute to multiple internal data initiatives, including but not limited to: new tool development, automation and machine learning, NLP, simulation, data integration, visualization and informatics dashboards.
Contribute to and/or lead the design, assessment and interpretation of internal data projects in a statistically relevant context to support business data needs
Ensure quality and consistency of complex analytics deliverables by developing robust processes and capabilities specific to internal company data projects
Ensure that statistical analyses are performed in accordance with good statistical practice and applicable regulatory guidelines
Quantify the business process by statistics and management science to increase business decision quality
Identify and manage collaborations across multiple internal data owners
Meets regularly with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mutual understanding of the project design, required output and timelines
Quantitative Dimensions:
The Sr. Manager BSA is responsible for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across multiple products and therapeutic areas to provide statistical expertise. They are expected to support multiple large and small projects across all therapeutic areas and functions within Astellas. Projects will be defined as, but not limited to, modelling and predictive analytics utilizing internal and external data assets, and advanced simulations of company processes (real processes as in manufacturing or business processes). The results produced must be reproducible, statistically sound, implementable, and informative for the customer.
Organizational Context:
The Sr. Manager BSA reports to the Director of BSA. They will have multiple cross-collaborative project teams and matrix responsibilities across the AIA division. The Sr. Manager will collaborate with the following colleagues:

Qualifications
Required
Experienced in working on project teams and managing projects and/or people within a matrix environment
Experienced in coding against "messy data" and common data models
Master/PhD Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, and/or Computer Science with 5-7 years relevant application experience
Advanced programming skill in at least one statistical package or in at least one programming language or in at least one simulation software
Experience in multivariate modelling with a focus on predictive analytics
Experience in data mining and machine learning techniques
Preferred
Preferable to have expertise in text-mining, data preparation and processing for such projects
Preferable knowledge of at least one other statistical package beyond the required minimum of expertise in either R, SAS, or Python
Team player with good communication skills
