Purpose and Scope:
This position has a role for leading and managing bioinformatics analyst team of up to 4 members of bioinformatics and genomics data scientists. The role is also responsible for conducting bioinformatics analysis, especially NGS data analysis in several projects, as a member of Advanced Informatics and Analytics function, which aims to make our drug research and development business more data driven. This role advances projects of bioinformatics analyses both for target identification and biomarker development as both a supervisor and a specialist/analyst in collaboration with other functions, such as Drug Discovery Research and Global Development in Astellas.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Supervises and guides up to 4 bioinformaticians to prioritize projects, manage resources, and educate/train them.
Conducts Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis and other bioinformatics analysis for therapeutic target identification, biomarker development, and other pharmaceutical-related activities.
Finds collaboration opportunities or launches new projects related to bioinformatics by deeply communicating with internal/external colleagues/stakeholders/departments and manage them to advance drug discovery projects.
Proposes own bioinformatics projects that can improve our business
Acts as a bioinformatics leader in the projects in charge and provides appropriate and effective supports.
Develops analysis pipeline and web application.
Proposes better analysis plans and better experimental designs from the perspective of bioinformatics and data science.
Interprets analysis results appropriately and explains them accurately to project members.
Surveys and evaluates cutting edge technologies, algorithms, and databases in the field of bioinformatics and NGS analysis and incorporate them in Astellas.
Prepares reports and gives presentation on bioinformatics and NGS analysis to share information with colleagues and to educate colleagues.
This position reports to Director, Research Informatics, AIA-JP
This position supervises and guides up to 4 members who belong to AIA-JP as bioinformaticians
This position leads and guides multiple bioinformatics analyses and also be responsible for analysis on several projects as a specialist and analyst simultaneously.
This position works closely and collaborate with colleagues at local, divisional, and global levels
This position based on either Japan or the United States
MS. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Data Mining, or other equivalent discipline.
High-level communication skills to find collaboration opportunities or to launch new project related bioinformatics by interacting with internal/external colleagues/stakeholders/departments globally.
Good management skills to prioritize projects and to allocate team members' resource effectively.
Solid knowledge and 5+ years of experience of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis and/or genome data analysis with statistical genetics.
Knowledge of basic molecular biology
Solid knowledge of bioinformatics resources (i.e., database, algorithms, and software)
Strong proven skills of massive data analysis with R, Python, or other computer language and high-performance computing environment (e.g., job scheduler, computer cluster, cloud computing, or etc.).
Good programming skill enough to implement and develop analysis pipeline
Knowledge and experience with UNIX/Linux systems enough to perform massive data analysis.
Knowledge of drug research and discovery process
Working experience as a bioinformatics data scientist in pharmaceutical company is a plus.
Basic or more Japanese communication skill is a plus
