Purpose and Scope:

The Sr. Director, SBM OC Engagement & Strategic Planning is a highly strategic role serving as a core member of the OCO Leadership Team, leads a team that works directly with the Strategic Brand Marketing global brand teams, and must work across a significant number of stakeholders. This role is co-responsible for the end-to-end content operating model design, various strategic content frameworks within the global to local model, and accountable for effectively partnering with SBM teams (directly) and CD teams (indirectly) to bring to life the future ways of working and content operation model. The successful candidate for this role will be an expert at building robust and effective working relationships with varied stakeholders, guide and leverage agency partner expertise to build forward-looking frameworks that embrace external best practice and overcome internal challenge, able to lead strategically and operate in the details when needed, and will thrive in periods of ambiguity. Responsible directly and indirectly for a significant leadership voice of the digital transformation at Astellas, this role is critical to the success of the Omni-channel Operations GCA.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic development, oversight, implementation, and evolution of the end-to-end operating model of Astellas omni-channel operations and marketing ambition.

  • Accountable for partnering with co-LT members and various other stakeholders to design, evolve, and successfully implement and deliver new ways of working, overcoming operational challenges with big-picture thinking and forward-looking guidance to navigate towards success

  • Responsible for stakeholder engagement, cross-functional partnering, and other effective relationship building that delivers on shared, mutually beneficial, or other critical objectives

  • Accountable to be a key influencer and leader across the global business of the digital transformation ambition, positioning developments and solutions to current pain points and enabling customer journey personalization and improved customer experience.

  • Accountable for leading a team of Strategic Brand Marketing parnter direct reports who engage with global commercial teams to partner on ambition delivery including GCA objectives as well as coaching, counseling, and advising on marketing and omnichannel operations

  • Accountable for building and developing a team in line with digital transformation ambition as subject matter experts who add value to global teams and enhance the seamless delivery of end-to-end content operation.

  • Accountable to represent global commercial stakeholders voice in ongoing transformation development teams, soliciting input and feedback and ensuring fit for purpose, yet progressive development of content operations initiatives

  • Responsible for objective assessment of SBM performance relative to mixture of metrics including pertinent baselines and other monitoring solutions; responsible to introduce and follow up on action plans / performance plans where markets are underperforming.

  • Delivery, in partnership, of change management and communication plan that supports the standardization and streamline of the content operation globally, while enabling local teams to further support and enhance local customer experience.

  • Understand the strategic needs of the broader global commercial business and partner with OCO business peer leaders to support collaboration and solution-seeking ideation.

  • Key member of the Omnichannel Operations team expected to champion overall organizational ambitions, provide critical thought and feedback as contribution to all departmental discussions.

  • Reports to VP Omni-channel Operations

  • Peer group: Sr. Director CD OC Engagement & Strategic Planning (4 roles: US-C, EST-C, JP-C, INT), Sr. Director Digital Channels Optimization, Sr. Director OC Content Operations

  • Scope: Primarily to global brand teams


Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Work experience:

  • 10-12+ years of experience within pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and/or multinational corporation with global operations and local footprint

  • Significant content strategy, operations, and/or brand marketing experience ideally including digital strategy, digital marketing, and other multi-channel and content delivery roles

  • Well aware of current innovation in content strategy, modular content approaches, and other forward-looking developments within content and operations

  • People leadership experience managing virtual teams

  • Communication and presentation skills including the ability to influence and manage senior leaders and other key stakeholders

  • Experience leading and managing project-based and/or multiple initiatives at once with varying levels of complexity and maturity

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience working across complex negotiation and other process-related delivery models

Skills, knowledge:

  • Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated leadership in a matrix organization, able to motivate and inspire team members to high performance levels

  • Proven decision-making and strategic thinking skills leading to successful outcomes

  • Demonstrated ability to present complex issues to higher level management and contribute to high level presentations and discussions

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with team members, management and internal/external partners

  • Demonstrated ability to be a consistent high level contributor or leader of multiple projects, processes, or functions

  • Ability to lead and support cross-functional teams to deliver against common goals

  • Demonstrated experience influencing without authority

  • Proven track record of success being a high-level independent and team contributor to lead multiple project and processes

  • Experience working with teams / individuals with varied cultural backgrounds & learning styles

  • Willingness to travel (approximately 10-20%)


  • Innovative thinker with a finger on the pulse of the content strategy and content operations

  • Strategic thinker with ability to dive into the details and ensure proper considerations and frameworks built to ensure repeated process success

  • Thought leader and/or knowledgeable of ongoing digital innovations, content technology platforms, and other workflow related programs

  • Advanced degree, with experience in healthcare and/or pharmaceutical marketing

  • Multiple experiences across geographies within cross-continent organization (e.g., Americas, Europe and Japan)
