This position manages Material Approval Process (MAP) and promotes a high sense of collaboration with both internal and external partners to ensure all promotional development and approval related processes are completed accurately, in a timely manner, and in compliance with Regulatory and Legal standards along with Astellas high performance expectations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the promotional Material Approval Process (MAP), from early-stage project development through review, production, and final distribution. Including document flow, workload volumes, process performance management and issue resolution related to MAP.

  • Supervise and develop the Materials Analysts roles and individuals, interact closely with Product Management, Marketing & Sales, Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance IT departments and external agencies; responsible for maintaining/developing relationships.

  • Execute Astellas high performance and ethical expectations consistently while promoting a high sense of collaboration in the following capacities: ensure all promotional development and approval related processes are completed accurately, in a timely manner, in compliance with regulatory/legal standards.

  • Partner proactively with Assistant Director Marketing Materials and Core Committee to explore/identify issues or opportunities relevant to process efficiencies, review team dynamics, co-promotes and all ACT initiatives.

  • Assist management of Astellas promotional inventory in all aspects including inventory management, budget control, system performance and client / vendor relations through MAP analyst.

  • Act as liaison for marketing operations to ensure MAP and team are in alignment with commercial strategies and positioned as strategic partner; in collaboration with but not limited to marketing teams, Sales Training, Health Systems, Reimbursement, EDGE, HEOR, outside vendors and internal review teams.

  • This position has a responsibility to provide insight to developments or changes in industry use of electronic media and acumen to its significance/impact to MAP; responsibility includes continued development of direct reports pertaining to electronic media project management.

  • Monitor/maintain SOP-RA-28 to keep current and valid. When appropriate, modify as needed when change in market conditions or FDA guidance necessitate enhancement of Material Approval Process.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Oversee MAP Analysts and ensure that projects are being completed in a timely manner.

  • Conduct regular meetings with direct reports.

Organizational Context:

  • Reports to Assistant Director of MAP and manages Managers of MAP

  • This position requires close collaboration with domestic colleagues in R&D, Business Analytics, Regulatory, and Legal, Manufacturing as well as the Marketing and Sales commercial teams. Global development compounds will also require collaboration with Astellas Pharma, Inc (Japan) and APEL (Europe)



  • BA or equivalent experience: minimum 5 years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical promotional

  • review process. Appropriate knowledge and skills obtained through: education (degree),

  • experience in promotional review and specialized training.

  • Project Management experience preferred

  • Commercial print experience preferred

  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe)

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Customer Service orientated

  • Ability to work independently in addition to team environment

  • Ability to produce quality work under deadline pressure

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Multi-tasking and flexible

  • Experience in well-defined process environment

  • Previous experience in developing or managing a production/review process

  • Possess good people skills (influencing others without authority)


  • B.A. is a preferred

  • Previous work in a highly regulated area/industry, preferably Pharmaceuticals

  • Solid understanding of promotional marketing and the CFR requirements
