This position is based in Northbrook, Illinois, however remote work from certain states may be permitted in accordance with Astellas' Responsible Flexibility Guidelines. Candidates interested in remote work are encouraged to apply.

Purpose & Scope:

The Marketing Manager,, Congresses & Operations will be a key member of the brand team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing all XTANDI Congresses and Operations for the team based on market knowledge, key customer insights, and brand strategy. This person is responsible for strategic development and flawless execution of promotional tactics involving Congresses, speaker bureau, supporting ad board operations, and other critical operational aspects of marketing. This role works in close collaboration with partners, including the sales force, other members of the brand teams, the partner company, vendors, and a variety of internal partners across functions including sales training, commercial operations, IT, market research, regulatory, legal, compliance, speaker program operations (SPO) and medical affairs.. Serves as primary marketing contact with field team including communications to support and enhance congress and peer to peer activities and materials.

Specific responsibilities will evolve based on the lifecycle of the brand and competencies required on specific projects.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Lead strategic and tactical development of Congress execution to ensure strong engagement with key customers and drive Astellas as the partner of choice with major medical societies such as ASCO and AUA. Continually seek opportunities to innovate and bring ideas to realization. Measure effectiveness on an ongoing basis and recommend & implement changes accordingly

  2. Lead all aspects of effective promotional peer to peer (speaker) bureau operations and aspects of tactical execution while working closely with XTANDI Marketing team members, SPO, compliance and others

  3. Serves as the primary marketing partner across all event driven HCP promotional activities including coordination with GPO execution and event dashboard ownership and maintenance

  4. Work closely with the Thought Leader Engagement team to ensure effective operational execution of HCP Advisory Boards

  5. Drive efficient process for communications including collaborating closely with the sales field team to enhance congress and peer to peer execution of programs by engagement in product team meetings, creation of field direction memos, printing of relevant materials, and creation/deployment of digital tools for increased engagement such as digital booth presence, virtual interactions, and collaboration with meeting organizations

  6. Engage proactively with co-promote partner to plan effective tactical execution of assigned responsibilities for XTANDI

  7. Ensure that all relevant materials and programs are highly effective and compliant by owning projects through the Medical, Legal and Regulatory review process.. Seeks areas for process improvement

  8. Manage outside agencies in tactical planning, project estimate development, time management, budgeting, and execution of projects

  9. Contribute to the annual brand and tactical plan for HCP promotion and conventions.

  10. Complete work in an ethical and compliant manner.

Organizational Context:

The Marketing Manager of Congresses/Operations will need to fully develop working relationships with our collaboration partner and internal colleagues from other departments. This role requires high levels of collaboration for success and will need to be consistently demonstrated through the sharing of ideas that leads to creative tactics and implementation of solutions. This position requires a highly motivated, self-starter with outstanding communication, leading without authority and relationship building skills. This position reports to the Director, XTANDI Marketing. This position does not have any direct reports



  • Bachelor's degree

  • 7+ years of relevant experience (i.e., marketing, sales, sales training, market research, etc.).

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to proactively manage competing priorities

  • Strong written communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to influence without authority

  • Ability to present and discuss sophisticated issues to higher level management

  • Ability to travel up to 30%


  • MBA degree or other related graduate-level degree

  • Oncology or experience in a specialty field

  • Pharmaceutical sales experience

  • Experience working in a partnership / co-promotion
