Purpose:

The Director, Innovative Channel Contracting Analytics will partner with our Market Access and Commercial Capabilities Strategy team and Policy and Government Affairs to develop innovative contracting strategies to address policy changes and access solutions. This individual will be responsible for business analytics for evaluating innovative ideas that embody our Corporate Strategic Plan, including assessments for the development and implementation of innovative strategic pricing and contracting approaches for currently marketed and pipeline products. The Director acts as a key business partner and strategist to Sales, Brand Marketing, National Accounts, and Policy and Government Affairs for providing objective, in-depth information, insights, and recommendations. The leader in this role will demonstrate a strong experience managing analytic, pricing, and contracting dynamics, an aptitude for hypothesis-driven analytics and outstanding problem-solving skills. This Director partners cross functionally to ensure coordination of services and deliverables that incorporate government policy and market changes, including contract performance dashboards along with key performance indicators and forecasting design. The director will educate and train Contract and Pricing teams on implementation based on strategic outcomes. This position will champion the successful transfer of strategic insights to stakeholders. Influence and persuade across multiple external and internal constituents (stakeholders and partners).

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Create/implement innovative contracting strategies in applying knowledge of government policy to contracting channel expertise

  • Take advanced analytics from multiple therapeutic areas and utilize insights to apply solutions.

  • Educate/train pricing and contracting team, work to build capability of the group.

  • Evaluate government policy and market change impacts, including environment trends, pricing, competitive landscape clinical trends and business drivers to proactively identify opportunities and pressures to the existing portfolio and pipeline

  • Synthesize data and other internal and external inputs to frame problems and propose potential strategic innovative options related to enterprise strategic planning

  • Track major external trends in the pharmaceutical industry and apply learnings and analysis to develop a strategy to address industry changes impacting Astellas

  • Collaborate with all US functions and Business Partners functions to maximize value and opportunity for Astellas products across all channels within the US Health System

  • Lead and develop innovative financial modelling and analysis for commercial payer, buy and bill, and IDN value-based contract offerings and business development

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • The Director will demonstrate strong knowledge of pharmaceutical industry landscape, issues, trends, and their business impact, as well as a good understanding of drug discovery, development, and commercialization processes

  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative assessment skills, critical thinking skills, and ability to develop strategic plans and business cases

  • Knowledge of government affairs processes/policies

  • Expert knowledge/experience in pricing/contracting in the healthcare landscape

  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to facilitate and manage cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent presentation and oral communication skills with proven ability to influence across organization

  • The Director will demonstrate effective leadership and strategic planning with both internal and external executive leaders

  • Lead a function that consistently assesses the external landscape and proactively anticipates and addresses adjustments to channel and distribution strategies.

  • Develop and implement strategy to deliver optimal Oncology Specialty Pharmacy distribution outcomes.

  • Strategic design and implementation of a cross functional workstream to mitigate Astellas exposure and patient disruption within the 340B channel.

  • Responsible for leading and developing team and overall department /project success

Organizational Context:

  • Reports to the Executive Director, Contracts & Pricing

  • Works closely with PGA organization and MACC Strategy team

  • Works closely with external thought partners/consultants in the area of public policy/pricing reform

  • Partner with the market access team to identify innovative opportunities to address the competitive access environment

  • Director collaborates with the following colleagues: Commercial Business Units: Senior Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, Executive Directors, Senior Directors, Directors

Qualifications:

Required:

  • College degree in a business discipline with an MBA preferred

  • Contracting expert in applying government policy knowledge to pricing strategies

  • Demonstrated success in innovative pricing and contracting strategies

  • Developing/Upskilling others on innovative solutions, leading a team in applying strategic and innovative solutions

  • 10 or more years pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Strong leader with proven abilities to influence and create cross functional alignment

  • Demonstrated ability to assimilate and present complex information to higher level management and contribute to high level discussions

  • Strong collaboration skills with the demonstrated ability to gather key stakeholder feedback and gain executive alignment

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Deep analytics fluency, continuously monitors insights, and has a test-and-learn, iterative mindset

  • Ability to lead initiatives in a highly matrixed environment and gain buy-in across multiple groups across Astellas that may have different points of view

  • Ability to produce board ready presentation material

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the US access, reimbursement, and pricing landscape for pharmaceutical products (both Pharmacy and Medical reimbursement). Includes awareness of commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, other government, and specialty segments
