Purpose & Scope of Position:

The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis provides financial leadership and decision support to the senior leaders and teams responsible for Astellas Commercial business. It is expected to influence its business partners’ choices and priorities, establishing a climate of financial stewardship and championing value creation. This role also provides thought and project leadership for Commercial Finance and Corporate Finance initiatives to improve financial management.

This position has core responsibilities for partnering with the Head of CFP&A to support strategy formulation and business decisions. It understands the business priorities, analyses and interprets information, identifies opportunities for revenue and profit growth and recommends strategies to improve financial outcomes. It supports the development of financial plans and allocation of resources to get the best return.

This position coordinates and collaborates with the FP&A Center of Excellence to ensure the appropriate service is being provided to support our business partners. This position collaborates and supports GBS team and expert finance teams (Tax, Treasury, External reporting, etc…) with relevant knowledge and insight in area of responsibility as needed for statutory reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Performance Management:

  • Support the development of financial plans, within division, while considering enterprise strategy and guidance from above-country

  • Realize best resource allocation from enterprise perspective as well as division and market priorities

  • Actively identify and recommend strategies to improve revenue and profit growth and ensure operations are effectively managing risks and opportunities to achieve desired financial performance

  • Involvement in projects which address specific performance opportunities or issues within market operations and above-country operations

  • Partnering Overall:

  • Partnering with Head of C&G Finance who is responsible for key decisions. Details are indicated in stakeholders.

  • Decision making support:

  • Provide counsel, challenge and influence decisions to drive sustainable value as well as help to find creative solutions to grow profit and solve business issues.

  • Review and approve business decisions with material impact on financial results and cashflow e.g. pricing decisions, change in policy impacting discounts, expenses, etc.

  • Develop business case proposal and conduct financial evaluation reflecting corporate financial assumptions and defined business assumptions with stakeholders.

  • Compliance:

  • Embed Compliance Culture, ensuring Integrity in Action is actively applied in all initiatives, and proactively address non-compliance

  • Ensure a culture of Ethics and Compliance; lead by example and incorporate cross-cultural perspectives when addressing challenging situations

  • Others:

  • Support talent development by facilitating knowledge and best practice sharing among FBP team and FP&A COE to elevate planning, analysis and business partnering competencies of the team. Create a high-performance culture through fostering learning and constructive communications

  • Collaborate with COE to ensure correct & sufficient financials sharing to external stakeholders like Logistics / supply chain management etc.

Organizational Context:

The position reports into the Head of C&G Finance and is peer to EP&C and Initiative Finance within CFP&A. In order to achieve its objectives, it must work closely and collaboratively with the FP&A COE; and provide commercial finance expertise to GBS.

Qualifications:

Required

  • BS/BA in Finance / Accounting / Economics or related discipline

  • MBA and / or CPA / CIMA and / or equivalent certificates (or qualified by experience)

  • English advanced level in speaking and writing

  • 12+ years of experience in planning and budgeting in Pharma industry

  • Solid working knowledge of accounting and internal control standards

  • Experience with ERP systems, planning tools and Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to operate effectively within a global environment, using remote communication, and appreciating different cultural background

  • Solid experience in matrix environment

  • Solid organization, project and change management skills

  • Solid financial analysis skills, coupled with ability to communicate meaning from data

  • Solid negotiation skills

  • Profound communication skills and ability to influence with various mgmt. levels

  • Profound relationship and stakeholder management skills

  • Profound commercial and organizational acumen
