Purpose & Scope:

The Associate Director, Patient Partnerships operationalizes the implementation of Astellas' patient partnership strategy in rare and emerging disease areas with a primary goal of developing and maintaining meaningful and sustainable relationships with patients, caregivers and Patient organizations. Ultimately, these relationships will allow for internal stakeholders to access relevant patient communities to obtain critical insights necessary to develop new therapeutics that are clinically relevant to our patients.

This individual will develop relationships aligned with internal therapeutic areas of interest to build awareness of Astellas' mission and commitment to patient health, and develop Astellas' reputation as partner of choice, and work closely with relevant external groups on select, high-profile opportunities to better address patients' needs.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive patient partnership approach that will clearly illuminate patient and caregivers' needs and considerations.

  • Serve as an internal/external conduit enabling Astellas functions to appropriately interact with and learn from patients and patient groups, to amplify the patients' voice.

  • Build and sustain strong, internal relationships including Research, M&D, Government Affairs and Commercial.

  • Represent Astellas at relevant external meetings and forums

  • Exhibit the behaviors necessary to align with organizational leaders, especially Legal and Compliance, on appropriate patient partnerships

  • Exhibit high project management competence by ensuring that all programs are executed flawlessly.

  • Develop and manage a Patient Partnership budget.

Organizational Context:

This role is a Patient Partnerships Lead position reporting to the Global Head of Patient Partnerships and will serve as a primary organizational conduit to the "patient voice" to enable our Corporate Strategic plan.

Close internal partnership is required with Medical and Development, Global Commercial, US commercial teams, Corporate Communications, Policy and Government Affairs, Ethics and Compliance and Legal.

This role will help Astellas elevate its leadership position, reputation and company branding among external patient organizations, communities etc.

Qualifications :

Required

  • At least 8 years of healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, advocacy or medical device industry experience in diverse therapeutic areas.

  • At least 5 years of Patient Advocacy experience.

  • In-depth understanding of pharmaceutical research and development process, with experience in related therapeutic areas, including several disease states/product categories.

  • Strong understanding of patient focused drug development, patient access and policy issues etc.

  • Ability to sustain meaningful relationships with executive-level stakeholders, patients and their caregivers.

  • Excellent communication abilities including presentation, verbal and written skills.

  • Able to handle multiple priorities and work streams

  • Able to develop a proactive approach to maintain effective, current and relevant patient advocacy plans.

  • Demonstrates strategic agility and excellent judgment

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills needed to implement programs.

  • Strong coalition building and negotiation skills

Preferred

  • Advanced degree(s) in related field(s) including public health, administration, business, or marketing

  • Strong experience in Astellas' therapeutic areas of primary interest

  • Existing professional business relationships with leadership in patient advocacy organizations.

  • Prior experience specifically in rare and emerging disease areas including cell and gene therapy.

  • Ability to travel 30% post Covid 19 Pandemic
