Astellas is announcing an Associate Director, Oncology Marketing opportunity in Northbrook, IL.

Purpose & Scope:

The Associate Director, Oncology Marketing- Thought Leader Engagement for XTANDI leads the development and implementation of key strategies and programs to maximize the brand potential for patients and customers. This person is responsible for execution of thought leader strategy including the development of thought leader strategy & process, mapping and engagement planning, ad board coordination & execution, and coaching/mentoring direct report(s).

Specific responsibilities will evolve based on the needs of the brand and franchise and lifecycle of the brand.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Work cross-functionally, identify and prioritize thought leaders, develop framework for engagement plans and develop custom plans for targeted thought leaders

  2. Build close working partnerships with National and Regional thought leaders that lead to ideas that appropriately help Astellas better serve patients

  3. Serves as primary point of contact for thought leader engagement

  4. Maintain close collaboration with partners, including: the sales force, brand team, the partner company, vendors, thought leaders, professional societies, medical, account management and other internal functions.

  5. Lead the development, execution and refinement of commercial strategies/ tactics that are aligned and supportive of the overall brand plan taking into consideration feedback from customers.

  6. Coordinate thought leader engagement and develop/manage process for engagement visibility across functions, as appropriate, including: sales, key account management, marketing, medical & development, executive engagement

  7. Attend symposia & congresses to engage with Thought Leaders and coach contracted speakers to improve content delivery and compliance

  8. Lead commercial ad boards to gain actionable insights. Share insights learned with Marketing and other functions to create broad actionable plans

  9. Manage outside agencies in the following capacities: project estimate development, time management, and execution of project components including content creation, and assuring consistency with Astellas goals, direction, ethics, and guidelines

  10. Responsible for all Astellas SOPs regarding the quality submission and tracking for compliant engagements: contracting, Legal/ compliance approval for advisory boards, etc.

  11. Track and manage detailed budget for responsible tactics

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Financial performance (market share, units, profitability)

  • Marketing strategy, management, and execution

  • Customer satisfaction and experience -- enabling strong, business-centric, collaborative relationships with customers, both internal and external

  • Contribute to broader organization by leveraging and sharing best practices

  • Efficient use of resources including: management of vendors, negotiation for services both internally and externally, and monitoring of budget

Organizational Context: This position reports to the head of XTANDI Marketing (Senior Director, Oncology Marketing). This position has one direct report responsible for the pull through and execution of the Thought Leader Engagement strategy. This role impacts both the short and long term success of XTANDI, the oncology franchise, and the lives of cancer patients. This role requires high levels of collaboration across numerous functions and external stakeholders in order to be successful.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field

  • 10+ years of related, relevant experience in pharma (marketing, sales, etc.)

  • Experience in Oncology and/or Urology therapeutic areas

  • Demonstrated ability to be a high level contributor or leader of multiple projects, processes or functions with key stakeholders

  • Ability to present complex issues to higher level management and contribute to high level presentations and discussions

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities by leading teams and achieving goals

  • Demonstrated strong cross functional collaboration

  • Demonstrated ability to find creative solutions to problems or new opportunities

  • Proven ability to lead strategic planning and deliver tactically

  • Track record of being a highly motivated, self-starter with exceptional communication and relationship building skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence peers and stakeholders within and outside the organization regardless of position in the org structure

  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%

Preferred:

  • MBA or similar degree

  • Proven track record in leading and motivating direct reports

  • Experience working in prostate cancer field

  • Experience in thought leader management and key customer interactions

  • Experience working in a partnership / co-promote
