Astellas is announcing an Associate Director, New Product Analysis opportunity in Northbrook, IL.

Purpose & Scope:

The Associate Director, New Product Analysis is responsible for providing analytics based strategic guidance supporting development of internal assets and assessment of L&A opportunities. This position must effectively leverage customer insights and secondary data to develop, present, and defend revenue forecasts for assigned opportunities.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Functional responsibilities

  • Guide and lead the analytic component of commercial assessments for internal assets and licensing targets across a wide variety of therapeutic areas (primary care, specialty/hospital, oncology, orphan diseases)

  • For assigned new product opportunities, effectively integrate secondary and primary information to provide an objective, in-depth analysis of the marketplace, key customers and competitors to provide strategic recommendations regarding the commercial potential

  • Lead the market research process in support of assigned new product opportunities, including proposing, planning, designing, and executing primary research, and communication of actionable insights

  • Leverage secondary data and publically available information to quickly inform decisions regarding commercial appeal of assigned therapeutic areas, and determine criteria for success within the therapeutic area.

  • Develop and present revenue forecasts for assigned new product opportunities. Entails identifying the most appropriate forecasting methodology for the assigned asset, documentation of data and assumptions and identification of most appropriate patient segments

  • Act as lead interface with NPP, BD, API,, Development, and local senior leadership, for assigned new product opportunities.

  • Identify innovations, process improvements that enhance the team's analytic and forecast capabilities.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Over the course of the year, the Associate Director oversees market research and analytics projects totaling up to several million dollars in value.

  • The Associate Director is responsible for work output that provides the foundation for decisions affecting new business opportunities with values often in excess of $100M and sometimes over $1B.

  • The Associate Director is an individual contributor

  • The Associate Director reports to the Senior Director Marketing Science.

Experience/ Education:

  • Minimum 10 years experience, primarily in the pharmaceutical/health care industry with broad experience in strategy development, market research, business analytics, strategic forecasting or related fields

  • Experience with or working knowledge of primary market research tools and techniques, secondary data analysis, competitive intelligence, and forecasting methodologies

  • Bachelor's degree


  • Advanced degree (MBA/MS/MD/PhD)
