This position is based in Northbrook, Illinois, however remote work from certain states may be permitted in accordance with Astellas' Responsible Flexibility Guidelines. Candidates interested in remote work are encouraged to apply.

Purpose & Scope:

To define and implement a common global approach to Talent Management inclusive of leading the global succession planning process for VPs within region, as well as talent management processes for leadership and management levels within region. Employs enterprise wide best practice processes and tools to build strong leadership pipelines for the future to maximize business performance, engagement, retention and sustainability. The role will also lead efforts to automate talent management processes through leveraging technology and systems. Institutes talent analytics to measure the strength of our talent, talent pipeline and uncover vulnerabilities to drive our ongoing talent strategy. Works closely with other global practice leads in Learning, Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Diversity and Inclusion to create holistic talent strategies and solutions.

Institutes best practice approaches, tools and systems to drive effective performance management across the organization to maximize business performance, engagement, retention and sustainability.

Establishes best practice methodology and tools as it relates to change management and consults with HRBPs as they work with the business to design and implement efficient and effective organizational transformations. With primary accountability for enterprise-wide talent, performance and change management processes, the role will also work closely with the HRBPs to execute on functional and local talent activities where needed.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a common global standard for talent management processes and tools utilized on an enterprise-wide basis.

  • Leads the VP+ succession planning process for the Divisions headquartered in the region.

  • Delivers a fit-for-purpose approach to talent management for client divisions-- including talent reviews, succession planning, assessment and development solutions. Pilots approaches/ tools with client groups.

  • Designs training and communications to engage HRBPs in understanding the talent management approach and equip them with the skills they need to facilitate talent discussions and action strategies with their client groups.

  • Assembles a strong set of talent analytics and KPIs to evaluate strength of talent and vulnerabilities to support development of the enterprise-wide talent strategy and to help regions and functions understand their own strengths and vulnerabilities.

  • Aligns technology and systems (Success Factors) to the needs of the process.

Develop and implement a common global Performance management process

  • Participates in the process to create, implement and sustain a common global performance management process supported by best practices tools and training.

  • Delivers a fit-for-purpose approach to performance management -- including setting objectives, evaluating mid year performance, calibrating performance and evaluating Year end reviews.

  • Utilizes key data analytics to baseline, set course for improvements and track progress against key KPIs regarding performance management for the region.

  • Engages HRBPs in designing and understanding the performance management process and equip them with the skills they need to facilitate calibration sessions with their client groups.

  • Supports the coordination of the annual performance management process, supports annual timelines across the regions, contributes to the development and distribution of communications and training.

  • Ensures Performance Management outcomes inform development and reward decisions.

Define and deploy global practices for organizational design and change management

  • Define the global practices, process and tools for organization design and change management.

  • Create a community of practice for HR Business Partners and Change leaders to share best practice and improve consultancy around OD and change management.

  • Support the co-ordination of organization design and change activities that cross functional and regional boundaries

  • Identify and support critical business change programs

  • Manage the use of external management consultancies and vendors.

  • Impacts overall productivity through providing clear alignment between organizational and individual objectives

  • Supports attainment of business change initiatives

Organizational Context:

This role reports to the Head, HR Talent, Performance & Change Management. The role will have responsibility of building enterprise solutions, but with specific responsibility for implementing and overseeing them in the Divisions which are headquartered within their region. This role will interact with a variety of regional and global key stakeholders within HR and the business.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 8-10 years experience in talent and organizational development type roles

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification (I/O Psychology or Human Resources.)

  • Ability to partner strategically on business issues with clients; effective influencing and consulting skills; politically savvy

  • Proven experience of developing and deploying leading Talent, Performance and Change management practices.

  • Proven experience of working in a global matrix organization. Managing cultural sensitivity when leading and managing change in various environment, cultures and organizations. Working knowledge of applicable employment laws, labor regulations and other legal requirements

  • Demonstrated independence, self-motivation, analytical, problem solving skills and initiative to achieve desired outcomes

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization; ability to communicate effectively

  • Fluent in written and verbal business English

Preferred

  • Relevant advanced degree (Masters level or PhD.)

  • Pharmaceutical or Life Science industry experience

  • Subject matter expertise in two or more key HR functions e.g. Talent management, Performance management, Organizational Effectiveness, Organization Design, Change, Learning and Leadership, Compensation, Recruitment to set/embed high standards and build capability in designated area(s) across the organization

  • Experience of working in a business function, outside of Human Resources
