Purpose & Scope:
The Associate Director, Category Manager role will take leadership on identified categories on both a Global and Regional basis and be accountable and responsible for developing and carrying out the category strategies and drive multi-year transformation delivery value for Astellas.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Lead Global/Regional sourcing initiatives with accountability to work with the Business Units/Functional Areas & key partners to deliver industry leading value and relevant functional, business and performance objectives through the use of a wide range of value levers
Develop, implement and be accountable for Category Strategies that are aligned with business requirements, provide short, medium and long term focus and generate market-leading deliverables
Engage with key partners in order to generate ideas and opportunities and ensure the Category strategy and plans are aligned to functional and business targets
Apply leading tools & techniques to segment suppliers for the category, understand supplier performance, analyze market trends & constraints and deliver a broad range of value chain initiatives to improve performance, reliability, quality and life cycle costs
Champion TCO reductions and ensure annual value delivery objectives for the Strategic Procurement of assigned category are met
Determine and continually monitor current supply market position in the specific category spend area to identify risks. Recommend actions to mitigate risks.
Lead Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program for the category and ensure participating suppliers deliver value beyond price objectives
Establish Marketing and Partner Global engagement plans in to create positive working relationships and impact these relationships to influence and win support for Procurement transformation
Support the Global Head of Category through the leadership of key additional Regional/Global activities within their Tower
Be recognized as the Category expertise and apply this knowledge to act as a 'Change Agent' for implementing new commercial models and ways of working
This role will report to Global Category Lead.
Will build relationships with Business unit key partners: up to and including EC-1 (SVP and below), Key Finance Leadership, Procurement Leadership Team (PLT), Global Category Leads, Sourcing Leads/Managers and other category managers. Also oversee External suppliers and consultants and the GBS teams as needed.
5+ years' experience in procurement or finance or as category manager or other relevant commercial role
Proven leadership and people management skills to coach internal and external teams to high performance standards
BS or BA degree
Advanced sourcing toolkit and supply base management experience
Excellent analytical skills
Strong negotiating skills
Evidence of developing innovative commercial solutions using a wide range of value levers
Understanding of Category Strategy formulation and execution and the different approaches to be applied to different kinds of spend & supply markets
Advanced negotiation and contractual skills
World class supplier relationship skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and fluent in written and verbal business English
Strong conceptual problem solver with practical implementation skills to interpret and apply business requirements and effectively align inputs, outputs and results
Ability to see opportunities, identify and balance risks and benefits and take appropriate actions
Acts as ambassador for change; able to embrace/persuade to secure sponsorship, commitment and innovation.
Strong presentation, communication, influencing and management reporting skills (compliance, qualitative/quantitative updates, risks/corrective action etc.)
Excellent, evidence based, decision making based on robust analysis and sound judgment
Excellent project management methodology and track record of successful delivery: critical path, achievements, reporting, risk management, solution focused etc. to deliver strategic benefits and long-term impact
Critical thinking skills to create a robust case, analyze commercial and business information and devise strategy
