Purpose and Scope:

The Assistant Director of Health Care Provider (HCP) Promotion for XTANDI will be a key member of the brand team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and ongoing refinement of the core HCP promotional strategy and messaging based on market knowledge, customer insights, and brand strategy. The candidate will also work across the organization in the development of the promotional strategy for new indications, promotional campaigns and lead key strategic drivers such as market segmentation. This role will also be a critical in delivering and executing against brand strategies via the sales force. The candidate will work in close collaboration with Sales Leadership and Operations, Sales Training, Market Research, Regulatory, Legal, Medical Affairs, Global Brand Marketing, other members of the brand team (including our collaboration partner), and external agencies.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the HCP promotional strategy for new indications, disease education activities and the execution of messaging and tactics to drive market share growth and achieving sales targets. Measure effectiveness on an ongoing basis and recommend & implement changes accordingly.

  • Work cross-functionally to drive the HCP strategy and tactics through close collaboration with global marketing, insights and analytics, and the collaboration partner.

  • Develop strong relationships with sales leadership and operations to align on objectives, planning and execution.

  • Ensure that materials and programs are highly effective and compliant by owning projects through the Medical, Legal and Regulatory review process.

  • Collaborate with market research on the design and assessment of brand projects; leverage and share insights to improve tactics.

  • Serve as the primary lead with outside agencies in the following capacities: Strategy and tactical planning, project estimate development, time management, and execution of projects, and assuring consistency with product positioning, brand guidelines, Astellas goals, direction, and ethics.

  • Lead the development of the annual brand and tactical plan for HCP promotion. 8. Ensure all work is completed in an ethical and compliant manner.

Organizational Context:

This individual will report to the Promotional Strategy Director, XTANDI Marketing. This position does not have any direct reports, but will need to fully develop working relationships with external partners and internal colleagues from other departments (including global, market research, legal, and regulatory). More frequent contact and collaboration with Executive Director and VP levels will begin at this level. This role requires high levels of collaboration for success and will need to be consistently demonstrated through the sharing of ideas that leads to creative solutions.

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 10 plus years of related, relevant experience (i.e., marketing, sales, sales training, market research, etc.).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to use analytical skills and critical thinking to diagnose business issues and adjust plans accordingly.

  • Ability to create, implement and iterate impactful action plans, tactics and programs with clear and measurable outcomes to the business and the customer.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to proactively manage competing priorities.

  • Ability to present complex issues to higher level management and contribute to high level presentations and discussions is a must.

  • Experience owning projects through the Medical, Legal and Regulatory review process, preferably for a partnered product.

  • Ability to travel up to 15%.


  • MBA degree or other related graduate-level degree

  • Oncology and Urology experience, including experience in prostate cancer

  • Pharmaceutical sales experience

  • Experience working in a partnership / co-promotion

  • Experience in support of a launch
