Purpose & Scope:

The Assistant Director, Digital Workplace Product Manager will act as a digital product manager, leading initiatives to build and evolve people, process, and technology solutions that deliver tangible impact to the business. The specific focus will be on improving innovation and decision making by connecting Astellas employees to the collective knowledge, insights, and experiences of the entire company ("knowledge management"). This will help Astellas get the most value out its people and its unstructured data, two of its greatest assets. The scope is global and across the entire Astellas enterprise.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • engage stakeholders and end users across the company to deeply understand their business problems and needs

  • think strategically to translate those needs into capabilities and solutions that better connect people to knowledge and insights: connecting people to content (e.g. unstructured data and information like documents) and people to people (e.g. experts or colleagues with relevant experiences)

  • lead efforts to bring those capabilities and solutions to life by executing across multiple workstreams, such as: business strategy, customer research, user experience, measurement, organizational change, legal and data privacy, process design/improvement, and digital technology implementation

  • operate at the intersection of business and technology to research, understand and apply innovative technologies and processes to business problems.

  • work across a wide variety of digital initiatives in areas like: enterprise search, content management, content curation, information architecture (taxonomies, ontologies, metadata), corporate people profiles, expertise location, communities of practice, question and answer forums, recommender systems, information access rights/security/classification, etc.

  • influence stakeholders, lead cross-functional teams, and partner with: Information Systems, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, HR, AIA, various business units, vendors and others.

Organizational Context:

This role sits within the AIA group and requires collaboration both within AIA and across all Astellas divisions. This role may manage project resources, including contractors.

Qualifications: Required

  • 5+ years of experience in digital transformation strategy and product management within a large, global enterprise

  • Relevant Bachelor's degree

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated success in researching, understanding, and applying innovative technologies -- especially with unstructured information. Examples: search, content management, knowledge repositories, ontologies, social bookmarking, text analytics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), classification, recommender systems, knowledge graph, etc.

  • Experience working with internal and external resources, including vendors and technology teams, to deliver high quality at pace with an Agile mindset

  • Experience designing, managing, and improving processes around unstructured information (documents, text/image/video-based content)

  • Strong end-to-end product management skills, from business justification to launch, including user engagement, adoption, behavior change, and data-driven decision making

  • Customer/user research and user experience skills with a design thinking / human-centered design approach

  • Team leadership and influencing without authority in a virtual, global context

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization

  • Advanced English business language proficiency

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Experience with legal, data privacy, GDPR, ethics & compliance.

  • Experience with digital strategy and product management in a pharmaceutical context.

  • Experience in cross-cultural project management and communication.

  • Experience creating solutions within a Japanese language context.
