Astellas is announcing an Assistant Director - Customer Engagement Enablement opportunity in Northbrook, IL.


The Assistant Director - Customer Engagement Enablement leads the Enablement team within Customer Engagement function. The Assistant Director will be responsible for leading the following areas: 1) Managing overall Customer Engagement (CE) data environment, 2) Leading enablement of CE Analytics and Business Intelligence (BI) reports/dashboards and digital strategy/insights for CE, 3) Building and maintaining core CE infrastructure to improve communication with the field team through CRM platform evolutions and integrations 4) Supporting commercial decision-making by enabling campaign execution and advanced analytical tools and methods. The Assistant Director will partner closely with other members of the Insights & Analytics organization, Commercial Operations, and brand marketing teams

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Managing overall Customer Engagement (CE) data environment:

  • Manages the build and refinement of CE big data analytics environment
  • Increases efficiency of CE analytics through development of core subject areas and analytic tables
  • Promotes increasing adoption and usage within Commercial Operations and other internal partners
  • Identifies and incorporates innovative data sources

Leading enablement of CE Analytics and Business Intelligence (BI) reports/dashboards for CE:

  • Collects and prioritizes analytics and BI reporting requirements for CE
  • Works in close collaboration with CE Analytics team to support execution of their measurement and analytics plan across all TAs

Building and maintaining core Customer Engagement infrastructure:

  • Builds and maintains core Customer Engagement infrastructure, including Marketing Database, Campaign Automation Platform, CE Analytics & BI Environment, Content Management Platforms and integrations with other systems
  • Delivers innovations in CRM platform and drives evolutions in data/insight delivery to support a positive user experience
  • Identifies additional infrastructure needs to improve Customer Engagement efficiency and effectiveness

Supporting commercial decision-making by enabling campaign execution and advanced analytical tools and methods:

  • Develops patient flow models and segmentation to support business development and pipeline assessments
  • Partners with Insights & Analytics team to provide analytic capabilities as necessary

Leadership responsibilities

  • Leads the Customer Engagement Enablement team to drive world class operational excellence for Customer Engagements
  • Manages a team of Data, Platform, Digital Insights, and BI managers. Support Customer Engagement processes, tools, data and BI by team collect and prioritize business requirements, define project scopes, build project schedules, and build/test solutions.
  • Proactively identifies and addressing opportunities to develop technical skill and leadership capabilities to enable long term Customer Engagement vision
  • Prioritizes and deploys team resources in the development and execution of Customer Engagement strategy
  • Develops talent through coaching, rewards and recognition, and providing experienced based developmental opportunities

Experience/ Education

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in large scale technology and analytical projects, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry and 5 years Commercial Operations experience
  • Good understanding of Marketing and Sales business topics
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization tools (e.g., Qlik, Tableau), analytic tools (e.g., SAS, R), Customer Relationship Management tools (e.g., Sales Force, Veeva), and data management tools (e.g., ETL, DW, EAI)
  • Conceptual knowledge of and experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance and Data Quality
  • Proficient in big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, Hue)
  • Deep understanding of the data sources commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry (i.e. script level, patient longitudinal, promotional, chart audits, etc...)


  • Bachelors degree in discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering; advanced degree (MBA/MS/PhD) preferred
