Purpose & Scope:
The Research Associate, Ocular/Neuroscience performs research and/or development of pluripotent stem cell (PSC)-derived ocular/neuronal cell products. The incumbent will play an important role in advancing pipeline products through meticulous individual contributions and collegial interactions/collaborations with other team members.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Generation of PSC-derived ocular/neuronal cell lines by careful execution of established differentiation protocols.
- In vitro characterization of PSC-derived ocular/neuronal cell lines through established molecular and cell biology techniques and functional assays.
- Participation in rodent transplantation studies, histological analyses, and/or functional in vivo/ex vivo assays.
- Makes recommendations for changes to experimental procedures to improve quality or productivity.
- Ensures availability of all experimental materials.
- Understands and carries out the proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Maintenance of laboratory notebook and communication/presentation of results.
- Keeps current on relevant published literature and developments in the field.
- B.S./M.S. in molecular and cell biology, neurobiology, vision science or related field, plus 2 or more years of relevant experience.
- Must possess solid working knowledge of aseptic cell culture technique: growing, passaging, maintaining cells in culture.
- Experience with routine molecular and cell biology techniques, histological tissue processing, immunofluorescence staining, microscopy, and/or rodent handling.
- The ability to perform laboratory assays in an accurate and reproducible manner by following established protocols.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to work well as a collaborative and collegial team member.
- Experience with pluripotent stem cell culture, stem cell differentiation, and/or neuronal cell culture.
